As it turned out the property was unbuildable.  The sewer line would be under the parking lot right next to the building and pretty deep.  I think it was going to be 50 feet underground and servicing it in the future would be impossible.  It was about as bright of an idea as building the new High School on the oppisite corner.  The busiest intersction in the county seems like a great place to add school traffic to.  IMO, it had as much to with Woody getting elected and disrupting the good ole boy network of a few folks making bank off the citizens. The plan was to buy contaminated property, have it cleaned at taxpayer expense, and then build a school on top of it.  Funny thing is the HS is going on property already owned by the city at the sports plex, where it should be.  The whole deal stunk to high heaven.  Somebody had a great plan to dump some contaminated land off on the taxpayers because tying to sell it on the open market would be problematic, being contaminated and all.  Thats the way I see it.

I contacted the company.  I was told, by the company that Publix is planning for Alex City in 2024.  I don't know where.  I heard the same things as Lifer about the sewer pipe situation.  Maybe they are scouting another location.

Sure hoe they are coming.

We drive down from Birmingham and now stop in either Chelsea or Sylacauga at Publix. We only go to WD in Alex City for a few frozen items. We have consistently found many of their items past the sale date at WD.

Winn Dixie is horrible.  Like you, I only go there to pick up a few items.  I do all my grocery shopping at Publix in Auburn.  My vet for the animals is right near there, so it is convenient.

For those of you on the south and west side of the lake, dirt moving for the Publix in Wetumpka is moving along.
