New Yamaha 150, dealer recommends running Yamalube fuel additive every tank. If I run only nonethenol gas, is it necessary to add, or is it cheap insurance in the long run? Thoughts? HPHQ what have you seen in regards to long term engine life?

I always say "do exactly as they say until outta warranty!!" Most things are a little overrated but can void warranty for not following the rules of the road! After that, we can talk about other options!!

Not sure about this particular product but considering how jet ski's are usually operated and in what environment, I would spend a little extra to get some more years out of it......or at least to think I was getting more years out of it.  I always used Yamaha's oil in mine even though it is more expensive.  So far after six years the engine still runs strong......now if I can only figure out where the water leak is coming from I would be a happy camper.  Its at Cathouse Marine.......again.........sigh.....

Ask Steve to check the fitting where the steering cable exits the hull. I had a 97 Wave Venture that had an unexplained leak that turned out to be a cracked fitting at that spot. It turned from a leak to a gush when the fitting finally broke completely....also only allowed right turns because the fitting no longer held the steering cable in place.

Will do. He has promised me a fix this week and I am crossing my fingers.  Not their problem even though he acted like it was.  They fixed the sump pump but I thought I had fixed the leak so I never mentioned it to him.  He'll sort it out.

Spending all that money for a new 150 and then wondering if the cost for ring free is worth it is the wrong way to look at it. If you can afford the engine, you can afford the additive as it does work. Also, I would suggest NON ethanol gas and Sta Bil in the pink color. The blue color is for ethanol. I verified this with a phone call to Sta Bil. Enjoy your new engine.

"Ring Free" is an additive that prevents the piston rings from "sticking" to the ring lanyards on the pistons when the engine is NOT in use.  (This is from my own experience, don't challenge with copy and paste internet stuff).  We use it on all Winterizeations on Yamaha and Mercury outboards.  (They are the same up to 115hp or so)  It is also a good product to use on ALL outboards from time to time.  Winterize your boat/prepare it for storage properly every year.  Like Jeff said, do as the book says.  My .02 worth.

Steve
