If they have the grilled red snapper (not the pan seared) that was IMHO the best. The creme brulee (SP?) was just wonderful. Get there a little early and go upstairs on the deck and have a drink. The view from there is really nice.

I went by Tuesday with some girl friends, for a drink and appetizers, all were excellent. Check out the damage on the copper top of the Wellhouse and metal tables from last weeks hail storm. Definitely try the upstairs deck, awesome view!

Everything is great! BBQ shrimp is a favorite, oysters if they hame them, snapper, shrimp and grits, actually I do not think you can go wrong.

Also, it is a really cool place and you have to check out the entire place but a drink on the deck for the sunset is awesome!

Definitely best around. The place is beautiful, they did a great job. Was not blown away by the food and service still needs some improvement, but 1000 percent better than Sinclairs. Wine list is good to very good and prices fair, but better bottles are $10-$15 higher than the same wines in Atlanta. We had a bottle of the French Santeney Premier Cru and it was $75. Around Atlanta the same bottle is $60 to $65.

We will be regulars. I used Open Table to book the reservation at 7:30 and later in the day it said they were booked until 9:00pm. When we arrived there were plenty of open tables. I was surprised they had paper reservation list. I asked why there were not using the Open Table computer (I owned a restaurant) and they said it is in the back and someone moves to the reservation list. I did not say anything, but the power of the system is it helps manage your floor, wait list, table turns, server sections so they are not over seated, etc, etc. It is so funny. They need to call someone in for training. It is not a cheap system and they are not using to their advantage.

I agree. I think they do not use Open Table. SO... Don't try to book online just call them for a reservation.

I was hoping you would post a review. I went to the open house just to see the inside and I thought they did a really nice job with it. Elegant and rustic at the same time. My only hesitation is that the tables seemed very close together, and I would hate to think that if the restaurant was full, they would be serving over my head.

What did you have and what did you think about it?

We started with the duck confit flat bread which was great. A nice item to share and just the right amount of goat cheese. We split their pring salad, which was nice but not out of the ordinary. My wife had the grouper and that was cooked well and nice flavor, but the cous cous that came with it was cold, like right out the the fridge. She said it tasted good, but was surprised it was cold. I had the sirloin, which was recommended as one of the top dishes, but was very disappointed. The presentation was good, but it was a 5 pre sliced pieces. It was suppose to include artichokes, fingerling potatoes and carmelized onions. But no artichokes, which was why I ordered the dish. I love artichokes.

We had the coconut cake for dessert and it was excellent.

Service was fair. Our girl was very friendly and tried very hard. But she was definitely green. She was very nervous opening the wine. We tried to make her comfortable by talking to her. Learned she was the manager of Crystals fast food and this was her first server job.

I applaud the management that they are training these people. She knew how to present wine and open a bottle. She got the proper glasses for the wine. She knew not to touch the glass and was very cute in saying that they trained her not to do that.

I thought the manager was a bit strange. He came by once during our meal and I did mention that there was not artichokes and the cous cous was cold, but we love the place and will be back many times. He responded with a simple sorry about that and then was critical of the staff. A bit odd and not the response we were expecting. He did not seem very personable.

Well that is my review. Overall, we are very glad we finally have a nice restaurant in the area. We expect it will only get better and it is certainly beautiful. We will go many times.

Anyone been to both, so we could get an fair comparison / review???

I have been to Yellow Hammer several times and have to say our meals ahve been on par with some of the finer restaurants in Bham and Atl.

Thanks for any comparisons.

it is just too far away. I am 5 minutes from Springhouse. And after a cocktail and a bottle of wine, that is about the only distance i can handle. I did check out the menu at Yellow hammer and it looks great. I will definitely try at some point.

I'm smiling about your comment about the artichokes -- I love them too and I was led to believe that they were going to be on the plate and they weren't, I would be mightily disappointed.

Can't understand why the coucous would be cold. Did they forget to pop it in the microwave or was it supposed to be a cold side?

I think we're going to try it this week.

I've been to the Yellow Hammer. The first couple of times we went it was outstanding. The last two times, not so much. The last time we went in December, the menu was down to 4 entree items none of which excited me. And the portions were very, very small. I'm not a person who expects gargantuan portions of food, but it was really small. I just assumed that they were having trouble staying afloat. It was a Saturday night and the place was half empty.
