is a HUGE ASSET to the lake and local community. I guess it wouldn't be a desirable asset if you don't like like local development and growth, which causes that growth to spread to the other local cities surrounding Lake Martin. I guess if you want your community to stay stagnant and not to change then russell lands is not for you. I have been to Lake Lanier and Lake Martin is NO WHERE near as cluttered and over developed as Lanier. And anybody who says that is smoking something I want...

Some of the people let go last year from RL might not feel the same way. Some were let go for personal reasons, and the economy just helped with a good excuse. My opinion. But Alex. City is able to turn jobs down like the Chicken plant which went to Phenix City and they have expanded to over 600 employees. How could Alex city afford to give these jobs away. I know they said it would bring in Mexicans but if you go to Wal Mart on the weekend I think they are already here.
I know a lot of people talk about the Russells and my family worked for Russell Corp and Russell Lands for over four generations. I went the Russell School with Miss Julia and Tom would stop by my job and talk to me. I thought a lot of them and still do. I worked for Russell Corp for 28 years, my mother over 20 years my grandmother 50 years, and my great great grandfather I' am not sure how many years. Russell was a giant part of my families life and after the Russell family got out of Russell Corp, it went downhill, per Mr Adams and then Jack Ward (A Jack Welch wana be). I am afraid Russell Lands is going the same way. I hope not. I no longer work for Russell Corp (Plant Shut Down) nor does my wife.
But I do wish Alex.City would think long and hard before they turn down any more jobs. Mr. McCellan works to hard to bring jobs into the city just to see them go to a surrounding city.

Yeah... usually when people are fired or laid off they don't really have the best feelings toward their former employer. Someone please enlighten me how Russell Lands is becoming Russell Corp? Because they care about the bottom line? Uh... duh. Isn't that Business 101?

Do you know why those business get pushed away from Alex City? I assume you do (competition, and the threat of "witholding" certain benefits the City receives from some landowners outside the City limits).
Bass Pro is the most glaring and obvious example, along with the whole Lowes buyback fiasco. When Home Depot opened, I knew the tide was turning, and the people here were beginning to get fed up (they tried to stop that too, but the seller of the property refused to renig on his commitment to Home Depot, even when offered a larger sum of money NOT to sell).
It will change eventually, but Alex City will suffer greatly before it does. That is what I'm talking about when I say Russell Lands must destroy what Russell Corp created in order to achieve their goal.
When Mr. Gwaltney left, the slide began. I also liked Mr. Howell, and thought he did a good job. But it wasn't long after that the total demise was set in place.
I can only imagine how your parents and family must feel. While I worked with them on a cursory level, I never worked "for" either Russell Corp or Russell Lands. And you are right in that what happened at Russell Corp is well in motion at Russell Lands. This economic landslide will only make it quicker and worse :(

When I started at Russell Corp. in 1974 the main thing that was emphasized was quailty and I think the same was true for RL but by the end of the 1990's Russell Corp was only interested with how many pounds they could get out of the door and not worried about quailty. Russell Lands has also hired people from Russell Corp which brought their ways with them some good some bad. Some of these people look out for themselves first and hire people who will be loyal to them and not to the company first.
The marinas could have so much business if they would treat their customers better, and once at Roanoke Do it Center they acted like it was a burden when you walked in, like you were bothering them. Customer service will bring in the business all they have to do is focus on that. People don't mind paying a little more if they have good customer service.

I grew up on Lake Lanier... There is no comparison between Gainesville and Cumming Georgia and Alexander City... It seems to me.... just a newby that Russell Lands and the whole community has done a great job in bringing prosperity to the region.... Think about it.... what would it be like if the textile business was totally gone (and it almost is) and ther was NO real industry .... including the real estate developments....
I have often read the post hereon and thought to myself about how jealous many of those who post are of those who have prospered.... Regardless of what many think.... prosperity doesn't fall in someones lap.. ask Ted Turner.... most of those who ultimately succeed and prosper... work for it...
We DONT want any chicken plants.... the renderings would end up in the lake...

I have to say that we bought our pontoon boat at the Kowliga Marina and we had an outstanding experience. We had shopped around and felt that we got a very good deal with very good customer service. I'd buy there again in a heartbeat.

Russell Lands not only has the right to do develop the lake, but lucky for you and me, their best interest is to do what best for the lake. For all of the development they have done, they still own a lot more of the lake's shoreline, and it makes no sense it devalue that asset by mistreating the lake.
So, I would argue that the lake is in safe hands with greedy Russell Lands!

Bad answer margni! It made too much sense and used sound business principles. So you must be an elitist snob and work for RL!

Best = Maximum profit potential.
My take on all of this is simple and I want to share it.
Some of the people on this forum do think that RL has done a lot in the past, some in the present and will do more in the future that will benifit the residents of the lake martin area that reside in our near one of their communities as well as Alexander City. NOW they are doing what will make them the most money and do not give the impact on residents much weight but toot their own horn like everything the do is to serve the community and not make money.
The position on "lake city "is that they want that to protect Lake Martin. They have the ability to do that since they own so much land. This also gives them control of others land which is socialism. They want this because it will increase the value of their land and make it more desirable.
I wrote this quickly so go ahead and start the attack and in conclusion I did want to state that this is just my opinion.
