I bought a 22' boat w/225HP Merc outboard that had seen usage in the Gulf.  My concern are some large nuts on the foot of the outboard that are severly rusted. Looking for a recommendation for an experienced Merc mechanic in local Lake Martin area so I don't have to tow it far.  Thanks.

Where are the "nuts" located?  Are they engine mount bolts, or lower unit bolts?  There are acutally some parts/bolts/nuts etc. mounted on engines that are sacrificial so that they fail so that over parts do not.  This is something that your choice of shop should watch out for and should be a part of normal service.  Is your engine older?  Maybe you can post a picture?  Or, if you prefer just call us and I will do as best I can to figure out what nuts you are talking about.

Boat was used very infrequentlly in salt water for 9 years.  I bought it from a relative.

Those need some attention for sure.  Maybe just as simple as replacing.  Also, check the two under the bottom cowling at the top.  They probably look similar.

Thanks for the evaluation.  Wish you guys still had a place on the lake.  Prattville a bit far to tow a big boat there and back.
