I may have to turn off the news because if I hear one more thing about the women's soccer team I am going to puke.  Look, women's soccer netted $73M in revenue and men's soccer brought in $4B.  Almost no one cares about women's soccer.  Heck, they lost to a team of 15 year old boys.  I hope these ladies enjoy their 15 minutes of fame and SJW nonsense.  Then they can fade back into obscurity where they belong.  If they weren't acting like a bunch of petulant whiners this would have gotten 2% of the coverage it's now getting and we would have already forgotten them altogether.  I didn't even realize they had won before.

I agree that the coverage has been over the top, but I do support their demands for equal pay.  It's ridiculous that the pay gap should be so much.  And really, in this country, soccer is not exactly a top sport.

The reality is that in the U.S., men's soccer brings in at least double the revenue of women's soccer and their percentage of the take is actually lower than the women.  The market has spoken about women's soccer.  If they were worth more their revenue would be much greater than it is.  Whose fault is it that they can't generate the revenue?  So in my view they don't deserve a dime more than they are already getting.  They aren't worth it.  Maybe that economic reality will change, but not right now.  This is like telling me I am being unfair for paying a guy $100K for generating $1M in revenue and paying a woman $50K for bringing in $500K.  I can assure you I will pay equally for equal results and I don't give a flip about gender.  But I'm not going to pay a woman twice what she is worth simply because of her gender.  And neither should the soccer federation.

And I would also point out that the deal was negotiated and now they are whining about what they agreed to.

Every once in a while I log out to see what you goofballs are posting and found this gem.  Spellcheck won't help your lack of understanding basic sentence structure.  BTW, haven't ridden a horse since I went to Hawaii....many years ago.

frustrated English Grammar teacher?  Do y’all remember sentence diagramming? Wonder if they still use diagramming to teach adjectives, adverbs and dangling participles?

Well, I have been lurking on this one but want to offer a counterpoint or two.  First, why do I care about the women's team in the World Cup?  Because they represent our country and we all should cheer them on.  Do I like the players on the team?  some yes, others hell no.  For more reasons than one.

Women/girls' soccer has a profound positive impact on a lot of young girls who might not otherwise become involved in sports.  It requires probably the least monetary outlay of any sport, and at the recreational level offers an opportunity to learn about teamwork, individual effort, and the rewards that come from improving themselves and the team.  At the competitive level (aka travel soccer) they are exposed (some for the first time) to travel outside their home area, competing against those with similar backgrounds from different home towns, spending the night in hotels, having to be at a certain place at a certain time (aka, structure), things they might not experience in their day to day life.  As they advance they are separated from their parents and have to deal with all the issues of getting up in time, eating responsibly, and basically having a trial run at being an adult.

Our daughter started playing soccer when she was 6, and was in the recreational program until she was 10.  The Montgomery team played a much better team from Birmingham in a tournament and the Birmingham coach identified her and one of her teammates as possible additions to his state-level team.  The two tried out the next Fall and were selected.  For the next four years they were on the road between Montgomery and Birmingham at least three times per week, but in return were members of the best girls team in their age group, hands down.  They attended tournaments in DC, Raleigh, Atlanta, Memphis, Dallas, Houston, and Miami - all the while learning to fend for themselves and be ready to compete.  Our two Montgomery girls were also on the Alabama Olympic Development Program Team and played in Holland and Norway, with their team taking second place in the Norway Cup, the largest youth soccer tournament in the world.

I could go on and probably did to an excess already, but here is the bottom line:  Because of girls' soccer our daughter grew up to be a very self-confident and successful member of the adult society and is currently a manager teaching others to be managers at a nationwide clothing and accessories boutique.  We attribute her work ethic and ability to get along and communicate with superiors and subordinates alike to her experience with girls/womens soccer.  I am dismayed that certain members of the US Womens National Team have chosen to use their newfound fame to make political statements, as they are no more qualified to do so with any authority than some rock star, TV personality, or actor/actress.  My comment to them is just kick the freaking ball into the net and celebrate your athletic accomplishments as you represent your nation.

So, the bottom line is that MM, I understand you are entitled to your opinion, but I find it insulting to my daughter and the millions of females who have had positive experiences playing soccer and grown to be productive members of our society at least in part because of it.

First of all, my middle daughter played soccer all through school, including varsity all through her high school years.  She chose to play volleyball in college.  So I understand the positive impact any sports has on the girls who choose to play.  So don't take this so personal.

However, I was pointing out the disproportionate fixation on this particular team, especially in comparison to our first three World Cup winning teams.  You are right that we should watch our national sports teams because they do in fact represent the U.S.  And in this regard far too many of them did a pathetic job, especially their captain who they chose to represent them.  Kneeling for the national anthem.  Trampling on our flag.  Taunting and making fun of teams they beat.  Screaming profanities at their parade.  Refusing to go to the WH because they don't like Trump. Injecting their political views into the sport.  I found all that disgusting, a poor representation of our great country and frankly embarressing to me and millions of other Americans.  And I find their whining about being paid as much as the men to be likewise pathetic and disgusting.  The markets have spoken and they are simply not worth as much as the men in the marketplace and they should not have been paid as much.  In essence they are whining about not being paid as much because of their gender and then they ask to be paid more than they are worth because of their gender.  They are whiney sore winners and don't deserve an ounce of admiration.

I find all that disgusting and unjustified and not deserving of my support or admiration.  Hence, my pejorative title which was obviously and intentionally inflammatory.  But just for you, I changed the title to be more specific to this team so you won't have to be offended.  And if it still offends you then we will just have to agree to disagree but I will never support this team regardless of their skill on the field.

Thanks for the clarification.  We are in violent agreement with regard to the current WNT behavior.  They demean themselves and the sport through their actions and words.  One notable positive point is Kelly Ohara, who jumped in to pick up a flag off the ground that another team member had mindlessly dropped during their post-final "celebration".

My daughter played one season of soccer in college but finally reached the burnout level and hung up her "boots".

Hmmmmm....funny coincidence as my daughter likewise only played one year of college volleyball.  She never expected the level of commitment and the fact that there were 7 freshman recruits of which she was the lowest rated server.  She figured she would kill herself and never get to play a lot and decided to focus on academics.  It was fun going to the few games we could make (she went to school in Texas) but we rarely got to see her play. Now if we are talking women's volleyball I am all in.  I still watch NCAA women's vball on ESPN as it is a great spectator sport.  To me, and this is just my personal opinion, I find soccer to be tedious and boring and can't stand the fake injuries.

A quick funny story.  My daughter is hyper-competitive and hates to lose.  She would cry every time her soccer team lost and one day her coach channeled Tom Hanks and told her there's no crying in soccer.  She's been out of high school for six years and every time I see Coach Rodasta we have a good laugh about that at her expense.  He loved coaching her because of her fire but had to temper her overly competitive nature at times.  She had little patience for others that lacked her level of desire to win and had no problem expressing her disdain for anything less than 110% effort.  No one on her vball team went to the floor for balls more than her.  Fun to watch...until she made a mistake.  Same story when she first learned to ski.  Lot's of pounding the water and tears.  Now she is very accomplished at that as well.

As I said, my title was inflammatory and over the top on purpose but I can see now that it sent the wrong message.

If you really want to repeat yourself please do try to be accurate in its original incorrect spelling.....at least I'm assuming you made a mistake and actually know the difference between the words "of" and "off".  Then again, based on your other posts you may not actually be that smart.

Every time I walk into a building in Atlanta I say this little prayer to myself.  Dear Lord, please don't let this building be one designed by Archie.  I want to live just a little longer.

You see this is how it actually works.  When I log in those people I have chosen to ignore in order to keep my IQ intact do not show up on my feed.  I don't see their posts nor the back and forth associated with their posts.  When I log out they show up, I peruse the various topics and read a few of them and occasionally respond.  I then log back in, my IQ immediately is restored and I move on until the next month or so when I take a chance and log back out.  That's how this all works.

I think what gets people's goat is when they use their athletic success as a platform for political statements.  I think it takes away from their accomplishments.  I hope they get the equal pay they seek, if in fact, they have a case for it.  I'm not in favor of women getting anything just because they are women.

I agree that a lot of little girls play soccer and they enjoy the competition.  Nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, my PC coach resigned a long time ago.  Here we have adult women at the peak of their sport that can't even compete with teenage boys.  I really don't know why I should care unless they are related to me.  But add on top of that all the SJW/politics and to me, they are unwatchable, unlikeable and just plain nasty.  And they are a bad example for our daughters, especially with all the bad sportsmanship......or shoud I say bad sportswomanship.  :-)
