Have an older Sea Doo (2001) that has one and only one consistent problem. At the beginning of each year, you hop on to ride and it will stall as it gains RPM's. Three consecutive years, I have taken it at the first of the year and the carburetor was rebuilt. This year the local repair guy at LM even cleaned out my fuel tank. I thought I just did a bad job of winterizing it. Now this summer I had surgery which caused the Sea Doo to sit since Memorial Day. My son hopped on it again today, and the same problem. As soon as the RPM's start to climb, the motor stalls. Took it back to the guy who already got $$$$ off of me for a rebuilt carburetor ($$$) and then the fuel tank clean out and rebuilt carburetor a week later ($$$). Now his solution is to change out the fuel lines and rebuild the carburetor for a nice sum of money.
I fully believe that the ethanol is gumming up the fuel lines and causing the problem. However, I am hesitant to take it back to the same guy who I think has basically raped me rebuilding carburetors and not solving the problem. Big problem is with no trailer for the PWC, I am somewhat committed to the local guys that can get it from the lake.
Do you guys think the fuel lines would be the likely cause? Who would you recommend for the repair? BTW, Cat has handled my boat great and I'd take it to him except for the trailer problem.

I think I can help you with your trailer problem. I will return on Tuesday.

If it has original grey fuel lines, that is your problem.

Agree with Kizma, all my 2002 Fuel Lines were upgrade to ethanol compliant. But to be honest never once have I run ethanol in any of my boats or PWCs.

Steve,
I will call you later. I borrowed a neighbor's trailer, and the Sea Doo is parked in front of your shop at the Lake.
Thanks!

Cat will handle it! I bought my boat about a year ago this week and the only way I had the confidence to buy a used boat was that Cat and company "had my back." They did an awesome job for a more than fair price. Furthermore, he patiently talked me through the whole repair process so that I could understand what was going on, and educated me so that I could make good decisions.

We have a 97 Yamaha Wave Runner that has had everything put in it except corn liquor and the only time we've had a hint of a problem was when my teenage daughter decided the oil fill cap was where the gasoline went....had to rebuild a cylinder because gas don't lubricate so good...LOL (now).
Just about all of my two cycle lawn implements (weed eater, edger, leaf blower, chain saw) have new fuel lines and primer bulbs, though. The originals didn't cotton up to ethanol so good...

Does the Sta-Bil Ethanol treatment help. I have used it for years and not had a fuel related problem except when I put fuel from a gas can that had water in it.

May depend on the make of your ski. I put ethanol-laced gas in my Yamaha for years with no apparent ill effect, and just recently went to straight gasoline. At the Entec station on 231 between Montgomery and Wetumpka it is only $0.20 more per gallon which translates to only three or four bucks more on even the most active weekends.
But in answer to your question I'm sure it will help but am not sure it is worth the extra cost over the regular StaBil - IF you aren't having ethanol-related problems.

The fuel lines from 1993-2001 are grey marine Tempo fuel lines, they are not ethanol fuel compatable, not sure who worked on it but everyone in the business knows this by now and the fuel lines on these machines are always replaced when the carbs are cleaned, my best advice, take it to someone who knows what they are doing, I or Catboat could easily straighten this ski out for you.
