I have a inboard motor and the gas line is 5/8". I was wondering what type of gas cut off could I cut in the line so I can save my carb from gumming up.
Any ideas?

Have you tried running Sta-Bil - it works wonders. I use it in the truck we leave at the lake, the boat and all fuel for small motors.

Yeah, 3/8 is right... I just want to make sure I get the gas out everytime... I probably should use some Sta-bil also.

Get a brass ball valve, with 3/8 female pipe, install 3/8 pipe to 3/8 nipple on both sides using tread sealer not teflon tape, and your done.

When you install the cut off valve (should you decide to do it yourself) you would be way ahead if you install it as close to the carburator as possible. Should you install the "cutoff" at the "feed line" from the tank, you will have to run the engine for sometime. The engine will have to sip most of the fuel from the water/fuel seperator, fuel pump, etc. If you put it close to the carb, or at the carb, then only the carb has to run dry before the engine quits. My .02 worth. If you have a Carbed engine with TKS system (electric fuel pump, TURN KEY START) you really need to prepare your cut off valve properly. Those electric fuel pumps ain't cheap, and don't like to run dry.

Maybe someone else has some input but I am under the impression that it is not always a good idea to store your motor with no fuel in the fuel system because of condensation and rust problems. It is better to leave treated fuel or fog the motor if storing for extended periods.

Due to all the Ethanol problems, we have switched policy from storing full a few years ago to storing empty. If we can't extract the fuel, we treat it of course. It is of my opinion that this a better way to do long term storage. My .02 worth.
