The stereo on my Chris Craft has stopped working and I would like to get it repaired or replaced.  Any recommendations?  I would prefer not to have to trailer the boat if at all possible.

Did you check fuses?  If it is like our searay it has several. There may even be an old cylinder type inline fuse right behind the unit.

It still makes noise but several of the speakers no longer put out sound.  So its getting power.

Rut-roh. That's sounds like an R&R. If it is am/FM it could be an antennae issue but we are also in a dead zone for radio reception. You can probably get a new one installed as cheap asnpaying someone to trouble shoot it. Maybe short bus will check it for you. He's an old electronics guy. Swapping one out is pretty simple and straight forward. If its a high end unit it may have an amp or subwoofer out though and not the radio itself. Steve knows a good sound system guy out of opelika that does excellent work. I can't remember the name though.

I'll check with him and see if he has a recommendation. I would be fine putting in a new system to get Bluetooth so I can play the good music on my iphone that my kids don't like.   :-)

But if it's Bluetooth, the kids can play music PaPa don't like!!!

Good luck on your venture.  I paid $1,000 American for a very basic Jensen system (factory option, no choice) on my 2008 Hurricane and it's not worth a dime.

What is installed now? If its a standard single din head unit. Just buy a new one and swap it out if you think the HU is the issue. My factory (Sony) HU went out last year and I had to replace. Does it have an amp powering the speakers? If so  I would verify if it is getting power or not both from the +/- and the remote turn on wire.

It's a Clarion XMD2 which is no longer being manufactured.  Latest model is the XMD3 which is also out of production and the only units for sale on ebay are being parted out or are not functioning.  Sadly it is also a large face model which limits my options for a replacement radio as most are smaller.  Still waiting to hear about options from a radio shop based in Auburn.

MM, Crutchfield has the Clarion M606 marine receiver that has the same dimensions as the XMD3 and has a lot of features.

I think I need to get into the Lake Martin handyman business.  I just put this system in my brother-in-laws boat this past weekend.  I replaced his Clarion which is a very large unit.  It has the CD slot on top and the tuner below.  Hole that was left by the Clarion was 8" x 3".  We have to go back and add a water resistant cover to mount the unit in.  See second link for the cover we are going to order.  It is 9.5" wide by 4" tall which should cover the hole.

After reserching your radio it is the same one I just replaced.  The cover below should allow you to mount a standard tuner and cover the hole the Clarion left.

Amazon has great prices and LO or no shipping cost. I would stay away from eBay. I've used Steve at car stereo shop and Chad at Jimmys car stereo. Just depends on if your looking for low end low low cost or high end higher price. I've been into high end equipment since I was a teenager and you get what you pay for.
