I installed my ATT Cisco 3G Micro cell tower last night. It is great. In the past I have had all kinds of problems with dropped call. The 3G Micro has taken care of that. I have spent 4 hours on my iphone 4 and have not had a dropped call. If you live in a fringe area you should get one.

Do you have to have ATT land line sevice? This would solve a lot of problems working from the lake!!!

No. But you do need to have a broad band connection from any ISP

If you already have a broadband connection and an iPhone 4, why not use Skype? I have used it for awhile for occasional outgoing calls over broadband IP, and the latest version can run in the background under iOS4, allowing calls into your Skype number as well. It works great. For about $5 a month, you get a fixed Skype number callable from anywhere, plus free calls to anywhere in the US and Canada.
Our situation is that in our house, we get almost nil AT&T service downstairs, but tolerable service upstairs or on the front desk right outside our door -- many have to step outside to smoke, we have to step outside to talk. We've noticed that once we get out on the Lake, we tend to get cell-call capability wherever our boat goes.

I figured that out and bought one yesterday. Installed today and it works great. My ATT coverage here was spotty and went out completely quite often. Hardly ever had 3G. Now it is full bars and 3G all the time.
Thanks for the heads up, Kisma.

I ain't a techno person, I just get lowsy ATT cell reception in Parker Creek. Plus, I would like to be able to look at Weather Radar when going out boating for a long time or when there is bad weather close by. I looked at the Verison Coverage Map on-line, and it looks like there is a clear NoCoverage band starting in Equality and extending East toward Veasey/ Willow Point ?? No solution there. So, is this an addition to ATT Cellular? Do I have to climb a tree to plant an antenna? Maybe a link that explains it? Sounds good to me. Thanks.

Do a search on Cisco 3G MiniCell. You do need broadband, cable or DSL. I don't understand how it works but it is great. $150 at ATT store or $50 if you buy ATT DSL at the same time. Not sure that is available in Parker Creek - i have Windstream.
Your phone has to be 3G - mine is a Blackberry Bold.
You can actually enable up to 10 phones on the one unit. It also has a gps to assist in 911 calls.

Hey Mack, could you interpret that for me? The only part I understood was Parker Creek. Sounded like a lot of "code talk" to me. There was something about getting your Axx thrown into a mini Cell for buying $50 Axx DSL. And that must be a hottie named Blackberry Bold for 3G. Just when I had OMG and LOL figured out on facebook, now 8hcap comes up with some new code words.

Got ya'. This gizmo is just a wireless router for your home which will also handle cellular calls. Internet, home phone and cell service are all transported over DSL to a central switch where the cellular content in DSL is stripped off and passed to the regular wireless network. It bypasses your nearest Cell Tower completely. Gotta' have DSL. (NA at my place, even though ATT trenched in fiber transport all the way from AC to the tip of County Road 20) Also gotta' have at least 3G cellphones (fancy ones with data and voice). Independent reviews were very positive. But, there is a price. @$150 for the gizmo, new DSL cost if you don't already have it, new cell phones, and a new 3G wireless calling plan. DSL is the killer here. Pooh ATT.

I have Verizon. I have used my phone in your area and don't recall any problems. Next time I'm up there I will do some more in depth testing on accessing the web....if the smoker is going, the tests could last longer and be performed sooner.
