A very nice gentleman just brought by a freshwater jellyfish he caught on Lake Martin in the Coley Creek area. I've seen a few dead ones here and there but never one alive in the lake. Very interesting to watch. I started doing a little research online and found this:

You never know what the day is going to bring.

Oh, the man released the jellyfish out behind our office so it's happy and doing well.

I have seen two. One during the winter months when I was wiring the wet slips at The Ridge Marina. Another during the summer in Elkehatchee area, I was taking a lake bath, standing on the back of my boat shampooing my hair. Looked down and there it was. And no it wasn't lather, I've seen plenty of saltwater jellyfish through the years. They were small, no tentacles, bout slightly larger in diameter that a fifty cent piece. Really amazing both times, especially the first one.

My son is a photographer and has been seeing these jellyfish for some time. He made this video today with his wife and my husband. It is a neat story on how they found the jellyfish and good macro video of two they caught (and released).

Wow they are so pretty. I had no idea they were there. I wounder how they got here and will they become a problem? Does any thing eat them? Why can they live in Martin but I have never heard of them in any other Alabama lake and could they be transported to another lake like the zebra mussel have been in the great lakes on.

I posted on this 2 years ago. They were all over the Stillwaters Marina area between the slips. I got laughed off the forum. Now who is laughing. Good video. Oh well. Im used to getting laughed at.

I remember you posting that. I have only seen them twice over the past 10 years. When I told people about such, they thought I was crazy.
