Yellowjackets are really bad around our place this year. We have traps, but I haven't found the right liquid to load them with to trap and kill dozens of these pests. Have tried mountain dew, coke, apple juice, and right now the traps are loaded with beer and fresh peaches. Anybody got a surefire yellowjacket bait?

Don't have a bait but you are right about the numbers. They are everywhere this year.

Well, I was cleaning fish Sunday morning. Fish were in a cooler on ice, and the yellowjackets were swarming the water in the cooler. Instead of pouring out the water in the cooler I just left it open and there are probably 50 to 60 dead yellowjackets in it. Fish slime is your bait.

Yeah. Somebody already took whiskey for my men, beer for my horses. Made a pretty good song out of that.

I got stung this p.m. cuttin grass, hence the post. Sounds like pork would work pretty good, but don't know if I could stand the smell after a couple of days.

Fish parts... We used to use a fish tied on a string over a soapy pot of water, They eat so much they can't fly and drop into the water.
The gas is used in the hive. What you want to do there is find the hive, wait till after dark pour a 1/2 gallon of gas into the hole.

Alright, from the great suggestions posted on this forum, I've formulated a plan:drink beer while I'm cleaning fish to draw them in , as if that's a problem, then skewer a striper head with a bamboo stick and place it over residual fish slime cooler water to which I'll add dish soap. The little bastards won't have a chance, and I'll clear Stillwaters of the pestilence.

I don't know what it is about hot-dry weather but they are always awful when that happens. If you have been stung 16 times you should carry Benadryl with you all the time. If you have a reaction you might like to continue breathing.

I say get out the lawn mower and just park it over there nest. Let it run there till the gas is gone. But that's not what I would do................Just Sayen!

Meat - lunchmeat, fish, whatever. If they are still building nests and raising mean little babies, they need the protein.

The site at the URL above has good info on yellowjacket control.

How about a belt-fed .410 - use #9 shot, have a few beers, eat some sammichs and fish, then go hunting...
