As part of the Relicensing of Martin Dam, Alabama Power has commissioned a recreation study that will examine the lake use of stakeholders (both property owners and recreational users). The purpose of the study is to validate the possible need to increase the winter water level to offer better utilization of the lake year round.
A survey has been mailed to a large sample of the property owners around the lake. We ask that you complete the survey and return it per the instructions. If you have received one of the surveys please post to this thread or email me so that we will know that the surveys are being received.
The HOBOs have worked very hard with APCo to get this study accomplished so that we will have better economic analysis information of the impact of Lake Martin on the three county area. Please help us by completing the survey.

We received the survey this week, and have looked over the questions. Some of the questions are very subjective in having to provide an answer. We will get it done and returned; however, (to me) it's a labor-intensive survey.

Thanks. The survey is being conducted by an outside firm and we have heard comments that it is complex, but we encourage all to complete the form. This is our best opportunity to raise the fall, winter, and spring lake levels permanently. If we are successful, the change will take effect in 2013.
Since the drought is over, you can plan for the lake to be lowered to 480' this year and the level will probably not start back up until mid-February with a target full pool date of May 1.

We have received our survey and we completed it on line. I did take the time to write comments at the end. I specifically wanted to re-enforce lake levels.

Received mine and already sent it back. One comment that I made at the end is the fact that most of the time we are at the lake we have relatives and guests who also impact the local businesses and these figures are not reflected in the survey.

Is there a way to take it online if we didn't get one in the mail?

Last I talked with Kleinschmidt back in '07 (the firm that did the engineering, biology, etc reports on behalf of APCo, they were keenly aware of the effects the drought caused our area business's. Doing an economic impact was always part of their scope. Guess this survey is one more step in that direction.

I suspect it is a relatively small number in the survey. Statistically speaking, one does not need a massive number to generate stats that are within an acceptable error rate. Biggest problem I can see is using the mail. Lots of second home owners do not use local mail.

The study is randomized through county tax record addresses so the owner should receive the survey at the same address the tax bill goes to. With 7,840 parcels of property around the lake most property owners will not receive a survey.
We'd love for everyone to be able to complete the survey, but that is not allowed under randomization rules.

Received & completed the survey on-line this evening. Really didn't take too long... hope it helps everyone of us in some way. It really helps speed things along if you have good household accounting records handy....

Yeah, that's my problem. I don't have the time to go look those things up.
