2011 Evinrude Etec 115hp starts first time, idles perfectly.

Runs fine for at least 10 minutes to hours.

Then quits and refuses to start.

Has done it three times.

I can guess too.   Anyone KNOW from experience what's going on?

We will isolate ignition/fuel soon if it still refuses to start.

 

Also are there common problems in the oil injection system for Mercury Black Max 150hp XR4 approx 1992?

Starter motor is fine.  I think it always turns over but no fire.

Well it might just be simple.  Owner caught the fuel line bulb collapsing while running.   Must have been a restriction past that.  He rebuilt/cleaned the tank intake screen and a check valve at the top of the tank.  So far ok.

There is a plastic gear that runs the oil pump.  Gear goes bad, then it follows motor goes bad. Gear is a b*$@^ to replace.  Everyone is running on pre-mix or pre-mix and injection in my case.  Can't trust injection.

Did further research on the oil injection.  Seems to be an alarm system for oil injection problems.  The 2 stroke oil is pumped by a crankcase pressure oil pump into a small oil tank on the motor.  There is a float that rings an alarm if it is not completely full.

 

The plastic gear drives an oil pump that mixes the gas and oil in the fuel line prior to the carbs.  A reed switch sends pulses to the alarm system when the pump is in normal operation.

 

I disconnected the tank float and then the reed switch.  Both gave an alarm. 

I am now running injection and trust the system will work or alarm properly if it fails.

Dun caught a bass already....................

 

 

Update on the Etec...............its running.
