“…If you accept the premise, and I do, that the United States is the most powerful country in the world, then Barack Obama is the most powerful writer since Julius Caesar. That has to be good for American artists.”
This and other preposterous glorifications of our “Enlightened One” and his stylin’ wife are posted on the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) website by Rocco Landesman. This is a GOVERNMENT website: http://www.arts.gov/artworks/?p=13
Your tax dollars go through the grant process so that the NEA and glorify the president using laughable reasoning.
Is this an appropriate duty of the federal government?

This is rather amusing to suggest because we are the strongest country and Barack wrote 2 books then that equates to him being the most powerful writer. I also, therefore, assume that since he likes to play basketball he is the most powerful player in the world. Wake up LaBon and Kobe. He didn't show any ability on opening day as a pitcher so he is a mere mortal when it comes to our national pastime. For the record, I voted for Obama and am classified as a socialist but I think these superlatives are utterly ridiculous.

The style and language of the two books he supposedly wrote certainly don't mesh with his teleprompter oratory! I suspect history will one day show that he was no writer at all...just an accomplished fraud and charlatan.

To answer your question, in my opinion the federal government has no business promoting the "arts" through the NEA. But then neither do they have any business in a huge number of what consumes their time and our tax dollars. Just as Speaker Pelosi could not or would not answer the question as to the Congress' constitutional authority to pass a health reform bill, I doubt seriously that they can give chapter and verse for stimulus packages, auto bailouts, ... Yes I know Republicans and Democrats alike have done this type thing for years, but that still does not make it Constitutional!
