Since they are comparing Trump, who has been in office just over a year, and other Presidents who served full or two terms, I think their assessments are a bit premature.  And polls are always suspicious because it depends on who you ask and how you word the question.

Nope most historians are busy rewriting history from a leftist prospective.  He will be elevated to #1 which basically means he is King Dog Squeeze.

I find it funny that these two idiots who love to quote polls which are constantly wrong bring in more polls to prove that they are head in the sand and arse up.  They say look it was done by a XYZ or by hundreds of "historians"  and we have thousands of climate scientists who run around screaming that we just have a few years to do something before we all die of floodwater.  Because polling is about as good as that "settled sience"  

ARch you like to toss out that this site is not a national consensus  - but I hate to tell you, it probably is a little more of a actual cross section of the USA then you would like to indicate.  While this site does not follow lock step with your thoughts or communist California/New York, I believe it does represent a good cross section.

I have done some researching, something that I would recommend Fish and Archie get in the habit of doing, of the particular group of individuals who put out this report.  The leadership of this particular section are all faculty members of institutions of "higher learning". I could join this section if I wanted to pay the membership dues, and I never took a political science class in my whole academic career.  There were no "presidential historian" labels assigned to anyone who I was able to look up.  A few collegiate syllabi that I was able to pull up failed to mention "presidental historian" as the title of the lecturer.  In other words, this is simply a group of college faculty members with an interest in Presidential politics.  Hardly, imho, an esteemed group of presidential historians.  

Now, don't get me wrong....If this group had given DJT a first place ribbon, I still would have viewed this poll as bunk.  History judges individuals iwithin context of the social, religious, political climates existing at the time.  The only way to read any gradeschool poll such as this, would be to place each individual in the exact same context and then debate their strengths and weaknesses.  DJT has only been in office for 13 months for crying out loud, his body of work is not completed.  He should not have even been a choice in this worthless poll because other than sharing the title of president, he failed to meet any criteria for entrance based upon comparitive experiences of all presidents.

You are showing a red-blue by county and state NOT by population. Trump won more counties but LOST the popular vote by 3 million. I did read it.  As CRD points out, they are just college professors with an interest in Presidential history.  And as I will contnue to point out to you, that they may all be democrats or liberals and it depends on how the question was worded.  And again I will point out to you that they are comparing a President with only a year in, with other Presidents that have served a full term or 2 terms.  If you can't see that it is illogical, then I'm sorry, I can't help you.  

I have noticed throughout this recent gun reaction, how many people just don't deal in logic.  They deal from emotion and they don't know what they are talking about.  They are not able to consider other points of view or other possible reasons why it happens.  they are not capable of independent thought.  Really, it is quite sad.

Not historians as previously reported.    Academics with Political Science degrees that were 57% Democrat to 13% Republican.  And this was from CNN, who I outright distrust in general, this morning.  Got to be careful Fish on just what you choose to hang your hat on lest your opinions be perceived as petulant and reactionary rather than based upon impartial reasoning.

CR, good point. I neglected to discuss political party of the responders as I thought it would just add fuel to the fire to also mention that  Trump didn’t even rank well among self-identified Republicans and conservatives, coming in 40th. Thanks for setting the record straight.
