I'm assuming there will be a million person march to the National Portrait Gallery to view these paintings up close and personal.  Hopefully, some of the Obama supporters here on the forum can give us a critical assessment of this unveiling.

I was speechless.  I don't know which is weirder - Obama in the ivy or a woman that looks nothing like Michelle.  I have a feeling I know why these artists were chosen and it wasn't for their talent.

well considering that the "artist" normally likes to create her art with black people holding the head of decapitated white women...

At least the presidential images didnt have Obozo holding a head in his lap or something.

Can you imagine the uproar if a white President had used an artists that had painted such controversial pictures in the past. Also I would have love to have heard the conversation in the limo ride after the unveiling.

As I undrstand it, the Obamas hand picked these artists, so they must have looked at some of their other paintings before deciding on these two.  I saw an interview with the woman that painted Michelle and she said that she wanted to paint something that would show how unique and important these to were.  She was a starving artist pretty much before being picked by the Obamas and now her paintings are selling for $50K  each. Mostly she paints black people that she finds on the street and photograghs.  I wish she had captured that disapproving mouth of Michelle, when things aren't going that way.  Or they could have painted her in her baseball cap and jeans in Target.  As far as I'm concerned these portraits are a disgrace.
