I just read some posts and I agree this forum is near dead. The only way to liven it up is to post something. So with that in mind, here goes. If you don't know about the rich history in Gadsden on the subject of steam boats do a search with your favorite search engine and you will find sites with awesome information and pictures. The first steam boat to ply the waters of the Coosa came upstream and docked at Gadsden. The day in history was July 4, 1863. Imagine this, most people had never even heard of steam boats, much less seen one. Picture one of your ancestors (if you are from here) out plowing the field or chopping wood, or the women doing some of their many chores. Suddenly you hear a sound you never heard before, ching chung ching chung ching chung. Everyone asks, "what the heck is that". We can only imagine the excitement as everyone runs down the bank of the river to see the "steam boat". This must have been one of the most exciting days of the time. If you have any interest in history put "coosa river steam boats" into Google. You will undoubtedly be pleasantly surprised. Mick
