Let's see how many old-timers are still around. Who remembers the original name Feb posted under, and then the other name he posted under before he switched to Feb.

Part II, who remembers when Feb's wife was a regular poster and what is her name?

Not trying to pick on you Feb, just got to thinking about the old posters of a few years back. I still wonder what happened to Coondog. He was my canine hero.

Lamar
Max
Elsie

What do I win?!

There were some classic posters, and classic posts, back in the day. Am I the only one who remembers "Ode to a Bridge?" Or the official-sounding announcement from APC that they were lowering the lake 60 or so feet? It was a joke, but some people believed it, and the responses were gold!

Did you have trolls on the boards back then? (No pun intended about the bridge info you just posted.) I just wonder how many are true lovers of Lake Martin there are or if there are just lurkers stirring the pot.

Don't know about trolls, but there was this Goat Boy once that was going to put up a fence around the entire lake to keep out the riff-raff.

Because your post got me thinking about it, I went back and found "Ode to a Bridge." The message still rings true... even though so many refuse to listen.

Ode to a Bridge...a poem by Injun Joe (reprinted without his permission)
Original Date: 1/19/2001 7:27:55 AM

I stood, on the shore, and cried
because "the powers that be" had lied.
They said it was "ours,"
then spent thousands of hours
drawing bridges to span the divide.

Chimney Rock was a beautiful isle.
Rarely seen, but a sign all the while,
of the honor of standing
against the demanding
of time, of greed, and of guile.

Then "the powers that be" said 'Enough!'"
"Its a rock! Not stock, bonds, or 'stuff'."
Would anyone care
if the rock wasn't there?
"If "the people" don't like it, that's tough!"

First we'll tell them the timber's our aim.
Many times, we have won at this game.
Then as the time passes,
and memory lapses,
We'll sell all the lots, just the same!

So they quietly went on their way
to develop the island some day.
They filed tons of petitions,
ignoring the wishings,
of people who didn't have say.

And today, where the stately rock stood,
there's not even a sign of the wood,
that once helped defend
the rock from the wind
and the evils of greed and no-good.

For this place that was once called "the Lake"
has been sacrificed all for the sake
of the wishes of few
not the old, but the new
and the power and money they make.

Young Lady , call it as you see it. I think I know who you are refuring to. And I did do a lot of trolling on the lake when I had my place.

No - not you Jim. I know you are legite. But all of a sudden - but I really don't know because I am NOT an oldtimer -I am seeing new names pop up with responses...so they have been reading for a while and not posting or just came on to stir the pot. For instance...who was the poster about "Don't need Wal-Mart" ? I haven't seen that name before and it was an advertisement...which isn't allowed. Just wondering. If everything seems the same to all you guys, then what do I know? Don't answer that. LOL

I fall into the read but don't post category. I used to post a lot, then I got out of the habit; changed careers, and found that I could visit the forum once or twice a month, pick and choose what topics I wanted to read and stay up with the old timers and newcomers.

Usually about this time every year, I start getting spring fever and start wishing for the weather to warm up and the water level to rise so I read the forum more often.

In fact, I've posted more in the last couple of days than I have in the past couple of years. Oh well, back to my cave...

I did notice that you called JIM legite. Was that pun intended or is his bad spelling habits rubbing off on you? That also might qualify as an oxymoron.

BTHound - have been on the forum for years, but post rarely. My interest definately picks up this time of year as well.

Speaking of longtime posters, what happened to TIVO?

I've been reading this forum for quite some time but only signed up last year and have posted only a couple of times. Thats pretty common on boards.... also.... this board format is THE WORST if you ask me. Just my 2 cents but I frequent and have THOUSANDS of posts on some music/band related sites and most use a common format (post nuke) that is far more user friendly/easier to surf. (and the software is free!)

In the past few months, message boards overall have experienced a decline due to, I believe, MYSPACE becoming a big hit with the younger folks.

Anyway.... yeah.. I'm a lurker! LOL

Good question. When I first started reading this forum, TIVO was by far the most frequent poster. He seemed like a pretty intelligent fellow.

Last spring, he said he was selling the cabin and the boat. I guess he gave up the forum too.

Whatever happened to SigEp. He was always good for some lively conversation. Him being a Bama fan and all, I thought he might re-emerge strutting his stuff a little.

Well jawjagirl, You are correct and advertising is not allowed. It happens from time to time. Some have been on the Forum much longer than myself, but many of us old timers do recall the good, the bad, and the ugly. There was a time when there was a lot of filthy and almost X-Rated stuff posted on the Forum, and most of it very degrading to the female gender. You seldom found a Lady posting on the Forum in those days.. Since the Lake is a wonderful place for kids, many of us were upset and over time (I think) influenced the cleaning up of the Forum. Now, most of the time anyone's Grandkids or Kids can read the Forum without there being a concern. We also find a lot more of you Ladies enjoying and making major contributions to the content and enjoyment of the Forum.
