Well after reading through what info I could find on diving at Lake Martin I was a little apprehensive about the trip this past weekend. Not to worry though we had an outstanding time. Vis was decent (approx 10-15ft down to about 60ft), water temp was great (in the mid 60s down to the thermocline at around 60ft, a bit cooler after that), and the weather held up (for Saturday at least). We made several dives around Acapulco Rock (sometimes confused with Chimney Rock) on both Saturday and Sunday. Had made plans to spearfish, but ended up not taking the guns. Came across a pretty big cabin cruiser there at the rock at about 60ft, hadn't read about that being there anywhere. Also saw what looked like an old shed there in the vicinity as well. A nice largemouth was hanging out under the eaves. We had a great time and look forward to doing it again in the future. As for wetsuits I was a little warm in the 7mm I brought up and my friend was a little cool in the 3mm he was wearing. Another friend had on a 5mm and that seemed to be just right. Hoods didn't feel as though they were necessary, but we all had them on.

Mostly. How about we go take a look at it? I should have taken pictures last time I was there, but I haven't been taking many at the lake lately...

I have taken a number of boats off Alabama lakes including Lake Martin.

There is a procedure that needs to be followed set by Alabama law and Marine Police. Before you do any thing you must let them "Police" know what you are going to do or you "CAN BE ARRESTED" if the owner of the sunken boat files a charge. this is a CYA to tell district 3 what your actions are going to be out at the rock.

Alabama has no salvage laws on inland water ways. The owner is always the owner till you file a claim the boat is abandon. It's up to you to prove this in court. But first you "MUST REMOVE" the boat from the lake to be legal. "this is part of possession id 9/10's of the law thing.

It’s based on if the boat is titled or not. This is the main issue. It involves the circuit court and advertising in local papers.

For me it "the boat" needs to be worth the cost. Just the court cost average about $300 to $500.
Also, there are other legal cost.

If you think it’s worth it let me know and I will help you with the procedure. Once you do the first one it’s not such a legal mystery or misery.
