You see, I have been listening to everyone complain about "Big Boats" for over a year now. I am so tired of hearing the lies. Everyone on this site has an agenda, and the biggest agenda out there hasn't yet surfaced. Its the home owners who lost money this year because no one wanted to pay thousands a week to rent a home with a dock high and dry. My guess is that most of these poeple permanently reside a little east of the Alabama State line, so the "water war" is a double edge sword for them.
I have seen money manipulate our government in ways I thought was not possible. Take my word for it, if this legislation stands you will lose more of your rights as users of Lake Martin! Expect legislation on Jet Skis and probably wakeboard/ski boats next.
Your condos will sell (or should I say rent) whenever tha water comes up, so don't worry so much. Put off retirement for another year. Its a small price to pay for a natural disaster of this magnitute.
The suggestion that you can "permitt" boats for lake use will only allow these home owners to have their boats on the lake (and offered for high rent) while others will not ba allowed on the lake. Yes, this is what is next. Look for legislation "permitting" use on Lake Martin. It has been stated that it would be easier to permit, rather than to decipher who is legal and who is not. Guess that means those of you who trailer in will be S.O.L.
All I hear about big boats is that "we" are the loud obnoxious people who praty at the rock. Let me tell you something, your kids with the $60k wakeboard boats, and your pontoons are putting away alot more cold ones than we are, and you say we are the dangerous ones? Do you know where they hide their beer bongs? OH WAIT, they just use your noodles for that... The lake is not safer today than it was before this legislation.
And for "erosion" or other property damage due to wake, please, the next time is storms go stand by your sea wall and tell me how much energy is absorbed diring one hour if 20 mph wind vs a full day of weekend boating.
Everyone who owns a boat is a liability to the ecology of the lake. There is no thing as an environmentally conscious boater (unless yours is a canoe or other row boat), so get off your high horse.
Lake Martin will be the next Lanier with Big Boats or not. There is no way around it. Just be prepared for the legislation..............
