I put in at Hwy 77 bridge and went north this Saterday. I was trying to find a place that the wind wouldn't kill me. I fished the back of coves around docks and blowdowns. Didn't even get a sniff for the first 3 hours. Fisshed from Noon till 5:30 and I finally found fish up river holding close to wood in about 6 - 10 ft of water. I hit one good sized submurged tree with a white spinnerbait first with one bite. I fished a bit further down and knew there should be fish on that tree. A second pass over the tree throwing a watermellon/red finesse worm yeilded a 4# largemouth. The worm bite slowed and I threw a white/char fat free shad crankbait in the tree. First cast gave me a 3# Spot and the third cast put another 4+# largemouth. I went arond and around this tree and caught 2 more in the 2#range on a worm. Once I knew what to look for I went on up river and found trees that looked like where these guys came from. I found a few more fish in the 2# range. A great day once I knew what to look for. Out of 9 keepers best five was 16 - 2#. All released in the same place they were hooked. Good luck to all the Guys and Dolls hitting Neely this week. Hope everybody has a full bag!
