What works on the lake?

I've been fishing Chickamagua Lake for some time now ... and I just can't seem to find anything that works consistantly. I've tried everything from plastic worms to hard-bodied shad and all types of jigs and spinners. Has anyone found a specific type or color that gets any real results? My best catch (a 3 lb. small-mouth) was on a 3in clear/salt and pepper lunker grub (by Zoom). I have had a very small amount of luck with the white grub as well, but notthing to even really mention. If only I had a motor for my boat and new trailer tires.
