My daughter has recently commited to college in Georgia. We will be retiring in the next couple of years, I was just traveling the area and found Lake Hartwell. I found the people to be very friendly and really did like the lake. I am hoping to talk with people who live there now, any information I can get would really be helpful. We are looking for a lake front lot larger in size with what I am told has (good water)? We plan on living there year round, we have several friends in South Carolina so we are looking to stay close to the South Carolina line. I did get a name of a realtor when I was down there, just trying to get as much information as possible.
Thank You

Sam,
it is a beautiful lake, we've been blessed to have a place there since 1997. We live in the greater Atlanta area but will be moving to Lake car well this year as I am semi retired. We live just over the South Carolina border. Realtors are not much help as I have friends that are also looking. You will need to do your homework. Good water is the keyword, we have average to good water and do have to chase water throughout the summer which means you have to move your floating dock out. Simple rule of thumb. The steep for the lot, the deeper the water. Disadvantage to Steve Lots is curing gas and beer coolers to the dock. If you are looking at lights now you physically need to check the depth of the water. If it's a small dark with a very short walkway that is not good. There are a few lake lots available in Fairplay, South Carolina in a subdivision called River Bend. The bad news is the roads are not paved. The lots are approximately $150-$175,000. Large lots probably 120' x 180'. Bad news is it's not a good time to build. Builders are hard to find in the cost of lumber is out of this world right now. I built my house in 1997 and have built several houses on the lake including if you incur he club which is a high-end golf course on the lake in Toccoa Georgia. If you want to find a good deal on an existing home you're going to have to be very diligent and check MLS listings every day. Tell your daughter if she has the aptitude for it, she needs to major in nursing. My son graduated two years ago and is making bank. Lake Heartwell is fabulous in the spring and fall, summers can be hot but tolerable, just over the South Carolina border is almost too quiet in the winters. Living near Anderson can be very expensive if you want a little bit of a nightlife. Good luck!
