How old is the deck with the rotting wood? Have you ever treated it with a preservative?

News flash!!! Since guvment mandated changes in the methods of treating exterior lumber were implemented,,,, you get a treated board that will/can/ be rotten in about 5 or 6 years. Spray it, oil it, paint it. Replace it.

Five to eight years ago, EPA made the treatment industry get rid of the good stuff treatment and try a new treatment....it doesn't work.  I have had to replace a few boards of decking about seven years old that was stained and sealed.  Not only does it rot quickly, it also splits much worse than the older ACQ treatment.  Manufacturers changed to another new stuff (I think it's MCG) about five years ago, so we'll see in a few years how well it holds up.  At least it doesn't split as bad, so far.  I've got all three treatments and I can really tell the difference.

Advice: wait till winter to replace or build with treated lumber.  If the lumber is put down in the sunny, hot season, it splits and warps immediately.

Thanks for the advice....the job is more than a rip and replace. The flotation devices make access to support bolts difficult. If anyone knows a repair source...I would appreciate info

So we are saving the planet...by cutting down, treating, transporting, and installing 3 times as much decking lumber?? Kinda like flushing twice with the low flow toilets.  And all those mercury filled flourescent bulbs that didn't last and went to the landfill.

This post speaks volumes to me. Seems like LMD would have a service guy to take care issues like this as big as they are. Apparently they only want the high dollar jobs. Whatever happened to service after the sell? Is thier response the same if it is a warranty issue? What part of the lake are you on?

Dadeville.....was not happy with response either. I went with LMD because I thought they would provide service as needed. At a minimum they could have sent a sub contractor and handled.
