In the Knoxville, TN area I have a 33 HP electric start outboard stored inside and upright.  Was running great when put up 10 years ago.  I'd like to get it running and sell.  I have the service manual and am willing to get pretty involved with it's restore.  Any advice on parts/special tools I may need need and sanity of rebuild versus payback would be welcome.  I'm assuming it isn't 'frozen up'.  Carburetor rebuild, impeller and lower seals are also assumed.  Am I naive in tackling this?

I really like old outboards.  Last one I did was a 68 model 4hp Mercury.  I found used parts online and at local junk yards.  It was a fun project, and my little motor turned out great.  Luckily, it looked pretty good when I started so there was not much restoring.  When you need parts, I'll help you find them.

Parts locating would be muchly appreciated if I need to replace anything I find broken or FUBAR.   I'll keep you posted as to my progress nonetheless.  Your reputation for trustworthy advice here precedes you.

Tell us about Watts Bar Lake??? Where is it? How big? How developed is it? Good fishing?
Curious minds, you know.

It's about 40,000 acres 72 miles long with 770 miles of shoreline nestled midway between Knoxville and Chattanooga.  I'm an avid fly fisherman using a popping bug almost exclusively to bother the bluegill, bass and the ocassional carp and striper.  I rub shoulders with bass and crappie fishers, but I'll land 200 or so to their catches.  Albeit smaller in size, I enjoy catching any fish.  I throw 'em all back, not because of the PCB warning, but I'm just lazy that way.
I use my father-in-laws 21' deck boat with 150 hp outboard and usually stay within sight of the dock.  Target rich environment on the north part of the lake near Kingston, I really have a great time during the mayfly hatches.  TVA impoundment with a dam and nuclear plant at the south end.  Alot of the lake is undeveloped, although some shoreline is and more development is on the way. Water drops about 5-6' in winter and is not clear but has about 3' visibility normally.  30 minutes from my house in Oak Ridge.  Thanks for asking.  I'm sure Lake Martin is nice, too.

I just finished rebuilding a 1957 18HP Evinrude Fastwin and I found many parts on line at various suppliers.  You can google your particular motor and you will find  a lot of sources.  I found some parts on ebay and saved a lot of money.  I repainted and put new decals.  It was a lot of fun.
