Anyone gotten a notice about removing foam flotation? Questions: What do you do with it after it's removed? How can you get it out from under a large floating dock? What is the penalty?

I called the shoreling management office of Alabama Power last week to confirm that 1/1/10 was indeed the deadline for unincapsulated styrofoam removal. It is. He said they had identified most of the docks and left notification on the cabin door. If you haven't been notified, you're prpbably safe for a little while.

To remove the styrofoam, you'll need to beach the dock, get a tractor jack and blocks and raise it enough to let the billets drop out. They may have weighed 10 lbs when new, but they are more like 400 lbs each now. Get a saw and cut them into managable pieces (you'll have to police up the crumbs).

Good luck!

Does this apply to the closed-cell foam (blue in color) billets as well or the old beaded styrofoam only?

Thanks

Does anyone know what the penalty/fine will be if one is unable to remove the foam for a couple of months? Also, what is a good replacement?

These would be what you need.

I got mine from Russell a few years back and did not remember them costing that much.

We got ours from Lake Martin Building Supply I believe in 2006, and they were a bit over $100 each.

Rebuilt our dock maybe 7 years ago using the blue floats. The floats at that time were over half the price of the whole dock.
The poly barrels are an alternative, but they are just as much. Check them at Overton's on-line.

About 4 years ago purchased mine for carolinadocks.com. Since I was purchasing about 12 he was willing to negotiate on price. Owners name is Jeff.
