Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around. I didn't know of this until it was pointed out to me. Back during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work.

Harry Truman deported over two million Illegal's after WWII to create jobs for returning veterans. And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican nationals! The program was called 'Operation Wetback' so that American WWII and Korean veterans had a better chance at jobs. It took 2 years, but they deported them!

Now, if they could deport the illegal's back then, they can sure do it today!! If you have doubts about the veracity of this information, enter Operation Wetback into your favorite search engine and confirm it for yourself.

This is astounding and infuriating. Why is this not in the papers? I truly worry about our country.

The question I have is whether Americans would be willing to do the kinds of jobs that the illegals do -- working in agriculture, landscaping, hotel maid services, kitchen help, etc. I've seen discussion of this before, but the conclusion has always been that Americans just won't do those jobs. And the other question that comes to mind is whether the people that hire the illegals are willing (and able) to pay the kind of wages that the laws require.

My understanding is that the reason the government hasn't cracked down on illegals coming over the border to work is because people need the help.

In 1947, after World War II, the United States charged the Japanese with war crimes for waterboarding. We punished people with 15 years of hard labor. We did that under Harry Truman. Why aren't we now punishing those that waterboard?

This is astounding and infuriating. Why is this not in the papers? I truly worry about our country.

Saying we prosecuted the Japanese for waterboarding is like saying we prosecuted Himmler for false advertising. Japanese soldiers after WWII were prosecuted for "torturing", including various water methods of which one would be the same as waterboarding. But waterboarding was actually the least harmful of all the things they did to our soldiers. I defy you to show me an example of a Japanese soldier that was prosecuted only for waterboarding. This is a classic example of cherry picking and misrepresenting the truth although I give you credit Lady, at least there was a shred of fact in your post. A true first!

The fact is we waterboard our own soldiers in their training. Besides, the current administration via Eric Holder (the Attorney General), has defended this training in testimony to Congress. In his words, the reason we are not torturing our own soldiers when we waterboard them is that we don't intend to harm them. That is exactly the idea of waterboarding terrorists.....we intend only to get information out of them while not harming them! Thousands and potentially hundreds of thousands of lives in Los Angeles were saved because we waterboarded two known, confirmed terrorists and obtained information critical to stopping the planned attacks.

I know you would gladly sacrifice thousands of people you don't know so you can be self righteous but not me.

Hound: I have heard this line of reasoning before and I guess the question that always comes to my mind is how did this work get done before we had millions of illegals? I know part of the answer was that me and my friends made money in the summer mowing lawns. I am inundated with high school age kids looking for work. I really believe that what has happened is that illegals displaced the Americans that used to do these jobs, initially at much lower labor costs. While I still think there is a lot of cost competition (as we hear from businesses that rely on illegals) it is not so much the driver today as Americans have given up on those kind of jobs.

Unlike a lot of others that oppose illegal immigration I am of the view that there are too many to simply round them up and send them back. We need to create an incentive for them to go back to Mexico or more to the point, remove all the incentives for them to stay. And the number one incentive is to work and send dollars back south. The second incentive is conferring citizenship on babies of illegals born in the U.S. Even Mexico doesn't do that! WIth the current economic climate, particularly with the housing industry, that is already happening. However, unless we secure our borders and eliminate automatic citizenship they will simply come back when the economy recovers.

But as long as politicians want to pander for votes (and I put Bush and McCain in this group) we will never get meaningful enforcement of our borders and legal immigrants will continue to be rationed.

It would be interesting to have some of our WW2 solders respond to some of the comments on this forum. Survivors of the Bataan Death March would not be too kind when we compare water boarding at Guantamo with wome of the things done by the Japanese and Germans in the POW camps.

I know this will sound silly and trite to all the morally superior ubermench on this site, but does the old belief that "Two wrongs do not make a right" still apply to any of you guys belief systems?

Oh,I forgot, isn't a amazing that MM has access to all the intellegence data that he does? Yet I do wonder why he never mentions the the Millenium plot that was foiled back in....oh excuse my stupidity, that was on Clinton's watch. Sorry, carry on.

As I recall that plot was foiled by a border guard mostly on chance. Not due to any intelligence gathering done by by the philanderer in chief. Nice try archy, but facts is facts. As MM says to you all the time, you libs believe so much that just isn't so.

I find it interesting that so many Americans feel that the work done by Mexicans are demeaning but they don't feel it is demeaning to receive money earned from other peoples labor through welfare programs. I fully support helping those that cannot help themselves but we have too many people that are simply to lazy to work. The Mexicans are very hard working people in general and I would support a worker program if we know who they are by a background check and that their location is tracked.

I have finally figured out who some of the personalities are on this forum.

Architect = James Carville

Feb = Dr. Dean

Tullahound = LBJ - Part of my friends are for this and part of my friends are for that and I'm with my friends.

But I'm very much alive.

Let me be clear for you. I'm not necessarily in favor of gay marriage because I don't believe it represents our cultural values. However, I do wonder at times what terrible thing would happen if we just said Okay and made it possible for them. Would our society collapse? No. Would it make hetrosexual marriage less sacred? No.

I guess you could say that I have a wide circle of friends that emcompass a wide variety of views. That's the thing about me -- I don't rush to judgement. I don't reject things out of hand becasue it doesn't follow tradition or the way things have always been. I like to think and play with the idea on both sides. Then I make up my mind. Now I'm sure you'll want to post something extremely "wise".

One of the things I like about this forum is how predictable people are. It's so nice when new blood shows up now and again.

Well said Hound. By the way Swimmer as regards the millenium plot. How do you know? Good gosh, are you privy to the same top secret info MM is?

Thats all. Even your liberal media reported it that way. Had there been any way to give clinton credit CNN would have done so. I didn't have foxnews at that time.

Any good food and wine stories from Italy?.........still have fond memories of an Oct '08 trip there that included some of the tourist locations, but mainly enjoyed the villa stay near Cortona ( where we met up with a Italian UGA grad who showed us around, including showing us the Italian home of the Georgia born author of the novel 'Under the Tuscan Sun') which allowed us to roam the country side and find interesting places and great food!

Where would I Start? About 99% of the food stories are good and the wine stories even better. Drove through Chianti one day and stopped at a winery - learned about chianti wines and their various blends - all based on the sangiovese grape.

Was thinking about the countryside last evening as we were driving through same on our jaunt to the Iper COOP - the Italian version of Super Wal Mart. There weren't any Americans or tourists within miles and miles - just Italians leading their normal daily lives.

Have to shower and go to the ship -- unlike most Americans who visit Italy I am getting paid to be here and must earn my keep. While it is after midnight EDT, it is 6:30 AM here.

Cheers,

Nasreddin Hodja.

Archie: I have come to the conclusion that you have absolutely zero of intelligence to add to any discussion. How about refuting what I said or answering my question. Instead, you simply resort to ad homimum attacks of zero substance or intellect. You worry me because I live in Atlanta and might actually have the misfortune to enter one of your buildings and might be at grave risk.....

MM. If anyone doubts they need only ask you so that you can confirm it. How do you ever find the time for your many lengthy posts on this forum what with all the time you have to spend presiding over MENSA meetings, Reframing your Masters degree in Geophysics, coaching so many of the lesser posters of this forum, counselling Rush, Glenn, Newt et. al. It is really too much for a poor "inane, unintellegent, baby killing, America hating, s**thead" scrivner such as me to comprehend. Please allow me to gather up the crumbs under you noble table?
