Loved reading all those great replies. Glad to know I'm not the only one bugged by rude fishermen. Oh, by the way, I do enjoy fishing, especially for catfish.

Wrap the exterior of your pier with chicken wire about 4 feet below the water line. Then you will have all the lures you need once the water drops to the winter level. LOL

I have no problem with anyone fishing around my dock but what do you do when they hook your jet ski cover and proceed to tear a 6 inch long hole retrieving their lure??

Maybe it was done purposely as payback for the many jet skiers who seem to take great pleasure in buzzing close to those fishing. It seems like there are so many with issues big boats, loud motors, beer guzzlers, jet skis, fisherman, loud music,....the list goes on. I have my issues no different than everyone else. The only answer is to leave the lake or accept the inconveniences.

Tell us Exactly what bothers you about the fishermen. Were they playing loud music? Were they drunk and boisterous? Were they on your property? Were they throwing trash in the water? Were they threatening your children/guests? Did they do ANYTHING illegal? Did they do ANYTHING but try to catch some fish? I suggest that the answer to all is "NO". They simply irritated you because you think you are "entitled" to an exclusive "No Entry" zone around your waterfront. My suggestion to you is to lose the "ATTITUDE" that you own any of the water beyond your seawall. Then, if they come again, go down, introduce yourself as the homeowner. Ask what they are fishing for, and what bait. Any luck? Any advice for ME off the end of my dock?? Wish them good luck, and leave!! If they are catching fish they will return. If not, you'll probably never see them again. You see????? Did not cost you nothing to be NICE. Go with the flow. This lake is too precious to be sucking lemons. Cool it.

I am sorry you felt I had an attitude. I was merely making a statement that when someone fishes in front of my house for a long period of time without catching any fish, it makes me wonder what their motive is. I am not being paranoid. This is a crazy world we live in. Just trying to be cautious. Don't get me wrong...I enjoy seeing people fishing and enjoying themselves. Lake Jordan is a beautiful lake for all to enjoy!!

Back when I did fish I never would fish around others docks. I know they didnt own the water, but felt like that was their space. I never really minded people fishing my dock, as long as they were passing though. Until the last 2 years I always fed the fish at my dock. In the early spring the bream would cover me up...a few weeks later the carp would come in. Then the catfish would take over. You would be suprised how tame the fish get if you never bother them. The larger carp would always be the tamest(15 to 20 pounders) some of em would eat from your hand. The cats are wild at first, but as summer wears on they tame down a lot. When I threw food out I would have 20 to 30 in a feeding frenzy. I usually fed em 50 pounds a week...they were happy fish. Funny thing, they could spot me comming long before I got on the walkway to the boathouse...start swarming the water like sharks. We enjoyed watching them every afternoon. But then one night someone came in and caught every one of em. I quit putting feed out after that.

well...I say every one of them. That day when I walked out on the boathouse, not a single fish was to be seen. I threw out a bucket of feed...not a single fish came up. Next couple of days was the same thing. So I poured the whole bag in the water and didnt mess with it after than. Wait. let me correct myself...there were a few bream there...I didnt count them...they always leave when the bigger fish take over....but all the cats were gone.
A week later I caught a thug in my boathouse. He was staying with my next door neighbor. A kid, twenty something years old. bracelet around his ankle for the police to could keep track of him. I taught him a important lesson about respect.

Maybe my reply was a bit strong, maybe. But, at least go down on the dock and talk to them, record their boat numbers (just in case), ask if this is a fish hot spot, etc. Who knows, you might be looking at the cop who answers your 911 call, your neighbor three cabins down or your future son-in-law???
