a Political career.
My favorite quote: "My campaign is not based on a foundation of lies," Womack said Tuesday. "My values are not lies. It's just the information I provided to the people is false." This included his age, his experience and his education....
You've just got to love it. No doubt people will vote for him.

Hound: You have to give this guy credit for his chutzpah. That may be one of the greatest quotes ever to come from the lips of a politician. If he gets elected I think you know everything you need to know about the fate of the Birmingham public school system. Kind of reminds me that MARTA had a woman on welfare on their board, may still be there.

I don't know the requirements for MARTA BoD, but unless it is specifically disallowed (and I'm reasonable sure its not), just what the heck is wrong with someone on welfare being a member?

Good question

Actually in order to answer that question I would need to understand what you want to get out of a Board. If it is just a place for identity politics then I suppose there is nothing wrong with having a career welfare recipient on the Board. If it is to provide guidance and direction for the successful and financially sound management by the senior administrative leadership of MARTA then I would venture to say that a person on welfare has less than zero qualifications and should not be there. Considering the fiscal mismanagement of MARTA (to wit, they recently had to be given $25M from the regional authority so they could continue to operate every day of the week) it is apparent that they are more interested in the former than the latter.
I suppose you are going to tell me that MARTA is a wonderfully well run organization, to which I will only shake my head.....

What are the qualifications for President of the U.S.? Just because the vast majority of Americans meet those qualifications doesn't mean they are qualified......oh, wait a second.....I forgot you voted for Obama..........oh, never mind, this line of reasoning will mean nothing to you........
Give up guys, he would have voted for her......

MARTA is not particularly well run at the upper management level, but as a fairly frequent user (airport, Braves games, city hall, Buckhead) I find the day to day operation quite efficient. The buses and trains run generally on time, are reasonable clean and In my 30+ years of varied amounts of use I have never once even felt uncomfortable much less physically threatned. I recommend it to everyone.

No I don't Archy, but regardless of what it says.......common sense should dicate that for a capital intensive, high operations cost and complex scheduling system like Marta, they should have the best and brightest available on its BOD. And, in addition, since there is tax money involved the augument is doubled for proper oversight by seasoned and successful people. Do you wonder why the surronding counties would not commit their tax dollars when this was first proposed?

Exactly my point MM. Unless the qualification specifically disqualifies a welfare receipient for being on welfare or for another reason and if they do specifically meet other qualifications, well you get my point.
I certainly agree with you on the qualifications for President. Certainly from 2000-2008 we were witness to the possibility of an unqualified person being able to fool enough people to get the office.

Another question Martini

The welfare recipient does not bring an investment perspective but probably represents one of the largest segment of riders traveling MARTA from the City of Atlanta to the suburbs --- maids, and housekeepers.
In 2007, Ed Wall investment banker and MARTA Board Chairman was arrested for engaging in oral sex at the Atlanta Airport in an airport bathroom. In July 2009, he was sentenced to a year on probation after pleading no contest to a public indecency charge. He remains a member of the Board as of today. He is well versed in finance and just brings another perspective to the Board.
Martini, ya think he should remain a member?????

Wouldn't you think that one of the requirements for being a member of the Board of Education .... is that you have a high school diploma? How can he still keep running?

Would you want a lifelong welfare recipient on your BOD, that's assuming you could ever own and run a business. Sometimes it seems you argue just to be heard on really stupid topics. Oh yeah, did you ever take the bet with WW?

While you and I may question welfare, it is legal in this country. Just as legal as carrying an AK 15 in full view to a rally in Arizona.
I suspect there are a number of Americans who lived in a welfare home who have died in Iraq serving the cause of freedom, as well as, now serving there. Should they have been denied the opportunity to join the military cause they were from a welfare home?
There are 18 positions on the Board. One is given to a person who represents a large rider segment. From a PR position, it is smart to have her as part of the solution. There is much more than just finances. I would place her on the Customer Development Committee.
Would I want a welfare recipient on my BOD? If a large segment of my market was directed at inner city lower income blacks, the answer is yes. If I owned a super market in the inner city I think a welfare mom on my board would be a prudent decision. I believe in empowering people by including them in the solution of the problem.
We just look at things differently.
I am sorry you if you dislike my postings. Why do you put yourself through the torment of reading them? You will probably be happier it all you read are those who agree with you. Put me on ignore and end the torment.
To answer your last question. No, I have not sent my address. If I want to meet someone I invite them over. I don’t sell my wife’s address and I assume you have enough love and respect for your wife not to sell her address.
* Board of Directors: MARTA's Board is comprised of 18 members, from City of Atlanta, Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett and Clayton counties. They meet regularly to address the latest issues of importance concerning ridership, safety, economics, new technology, government regulations and more. learn more...
The Board of Directors is comprised of six committees: - Customer Development Committee - Operations and Development Committee - Business Management Committee - Audit Committee - Pension Committee - Ethics Committee
