not at all ... I'll tell you what. Email me your address in the ridge where you claim to live, and I will come to your house with $1,000 in hand. If you prove it is you, then I will give you the $1,000 and make a public apology on this board. It it is not you or you do not email me ... then everyone will know you are a liar. So come on ... right now big boy.

WW .... if I can prove that I don't live in The Ridge ... will you give me the $1,000 just for not bringing down your property values? :)
|
Sorry it does not work that way. Fishy is always shooting off his mouth and saying things are not true and then challenges others and specifically me. I have given him several oppotunities to put up or shut up and he always goes back under his rock.
Personally I don't care one way or the other ... but he is always trying to stir the pot. So this time ther is another firm offer to prove he is not a liar ... tick tock. :)
I may not agree with you justaguy, but you seem to be an honest man and charater is top in my book from a leadership standpoint.
Fishy is spinless.

I don't know where GF lives and don't care, but lordy Lordy I wish he would somehow collect that $1000 from WW and then announce he was contributing half to the DNC and half to Nancy Pelosi's re-election committee! WW would self destruct!

Archie: That's a funny post and would be a great thing for GF to do with the money if he ever collects. It seems that WW has proposed to put his money where his mouth is so we'll see what happens next.

My wifey said with all your world travels to Italy, South Korea, China and Japan that you like to impress us with, you failed to mention the time you have spent in Nigeria. Your offer is just a variation of the Nigerian scam email she recieved last month. Give me your address and I will drop off a $1,000. Yea right.
She says you are just another greedy Nigerian who probably went to Emory with a scholarsip paid for with her taxes. If you were a true Conservtive you would have offered to donate the $1,000 to my favorite charity so you could take the deduction as a contribution.
I would simply invite you over but since I am not a drinker my wine cooler is not stocked with Casa LaPostolle Cuvee Alexandria. Will just wave to you when we see you on your deck with your wireless laptop sipping a cup of coffee.

And I think you backed out. If you are neighbors, why wouldn't you want to meet him? There are a lot of people on this board I don't necessairly agree with politically, but I don't think there are any I wouldn't be willing to meet.
You need to explain yourself and stop this mumbo-jumbo about Nigerians.
And if you don't live in the Ridge, well, just say so. What's the big deal?

Give the man a chance. If you do and he reneges then you have all the ammo you need to hammer him. As for me, I am with lamont, either one of you guys can come to my lakehouse for a grand. Heck, I'll even roast some meat and bring a couple of nice bottles of wine for the event.
I assume you were using Nigeria as a hypothetical since WW is a self-professed African American or black or whatever term he prefers to use to describe himself. I am a bit bothered about the timing of this allegation as I just sent all my personal information to Nigeria where I was told I won $1.3 million in the lottery there. I should have known something was fishy since I never bought a ticket......darn my luck!

I would have to agree that would be very hard to see anyones money wasted that way :) .... but he has proven that it is all about class envy and get lies to maybe make himself feel better.
Because I am a bigger man ... I will let him crawl under his rock again and not throw it in his face until he brings it up again.

You have never provided proof of your home at the Ridge. All you like to do is try and impress us with a home in Atlanta, on the Ridge, and at Vail. You like to remind us that you achieved everything through hard work and sacrifice which is quite admirable. I am sure everyone else here achieved their success through a Family Trust Fund. Gimme a break!!!!!!

Hound said it best ... now just give it up. You have proven you are a liar, now lets drop it .... who cares other than you. It is obvious you have class envy.
I came from very humble childhood and proud of what i achieved. What does it bother you so much?
Just drop it and we can debate politics, local issues, water level or whatever you like. Or nothing at all.

I agree he should admit it since he is the one always bringing it up ... but the guy is trying to save face with crazy explanations. He has lost all credibility. So lets let it go. I just think it is sad he has to constantly demonstrate envy. What people have is not what makes them happy. If he is satisfied with his life and family, that is all that should matter ... not what others have or their success. Maybe that is the problem, he is not happy or has not achieved what he wanted to in life. That could be why he believe in sharing the wealth. If that is the case I feel sorry for him.
|
MM said that you are African American. Are you? It doesn't make a difference, but I'm just curious. I have observed some very subtle racist behavior a few times since I moved here and it really bothers me.

You raise a good point. If one goes around envying what others have, one will only be unhappy. There will always be those that have more than you do; and when it gets past the point of money, there is a question of who "accepts" you. (For all of his money, Donald Trump could not get acceptance in Old Money Palm Beach) Everyone's circumstances and priorities are different. We all made choices along the way that lead us to where we are now -- one has to be satisfied with those choices. Look not on what you don't have, but feel blessed in what you do have.

Amen Hound. There's always someone luckier, better looking, better at golf, wealthier, etc. (especially when compared to c'est moi). God gives us all certain gifts and wants us to make the most of them in the right way. Class envy, greed, avarice and the like always do way more damage to the person wrapped up in those emotions and they are usually very unhappy. That is not my sense with GF. He and WW have gotten into a tit for tat and look for ways to tweak each other.
As for me, I won't cast stones because I have been wildly guilty of that at times, as you know well. My sabbatical convinced me that in the past I have been an ahole and I need to be more charitable. I hope my self imposed post-sabbatical behavior has been more charitable. If I can't control my emotions I will sign off for good.
|
We're all guilty of being uncharitable at times. I know I am on a regular basis, if not here, then in other places in my life. At one point in my life, I was very focused on acquiring things. I enjoyed them, but probably not nearly as much as I enjoyed the feeling that others would be impressed by what I had or if I drove this car. Somewhere along the line, I had a spiritual awakening -- and I realized that what made me the happiest was when I could do something for someone else to make their day better, even if it was only an encouraging word. I'm not my best self every day, but I do try to be.

That is the challenge, isn't it? Everyone wants to provide for their families and sometimes having stuff is wrongly seen as the best barometer. I was lamenting with a priest once in spiritual direction the passage in the gospels about how it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven. He pointed out rightly that it is not a matter of what you have, its all about where your attachments lie.
There are a good many people with significant material wealth that are not attached to it (I know a few and I admire them much). To them it is just "stuff" that they don't really own but only rent while the grass is still below them. And there a lot of people that by our standards don't have much stuff but they are overly attached to what they do have. I have tried to remember that and I tell my kids when something gets lost or broken that it is only a thing. That's why I never get bothered by dents and dings on my car or when things get accidentally broken by one of my kids. I draw the line with spilling good wine or overcooking a fine steak though!!!......guess the struggle continues......
|
Sometimes, I look back and wonder why having this or having that was so important to me at the time. And you are right, there are people who have stuff, but are not attached to it. Once I stopped worrying other people judging me based on my stuff, it made it a lot easier to detach. I still enjoy things that I have that are beautiful but I don't care anymore if it is the "right" thing or if anyone else is impressed. I feel so blessed.
