In what can be considered a brilliant tactical move President Trump canceled the June 12th meeting with Kim Jong Un, assigning accounability to the "Little Rocket Man" who in past administrations has made antagonistic statements with impunity.  Being accountable for what he says is something new to him.

Will be interesting to see if/how the little dictator responds.

Not sure about the merits of this decision but one thing is for certain, the only way you can get a fair deal in a negotiation is by being willing to walk away.  What Kim Jong Un will do may depend more on how China reacts and what they pressure him to do.  No doubt in my mind that China wants them to behave, at least for now.  They realize under the current administration that using the Norks to distract us from whatever is not an option.  At this point I defer to Trump that he is doing the right thing and it will improve the chances of getting something meaningful out of the nut job dictator Rocket Boy.  As much as I would like to be optimistic I am not.  China is the key here.

On another note, what happened in Libya is not at all helpful to our cause.  Un may be crazy but he isn't stupid.  Ghadafi gives up his program for one President and then another incompetently arranges for him to be overthrown.  I am quite sure that lesson is not lost on him.

I think it is Bolton's fault the whole thing fell apart, bringing up the "Libyan Model".  I think that unnerved Kim.  Although I read an article where a defector said that Kim would never give up his nuclear arsenal and would try to make it seem like the fault of the U.S. 

I never really thought that it would happen, but I would have been happy to be wrong.  Trumps letter to Kim left the door open for future talks.  The person with egg on his face is the South Korean President.

Bolton didn't originate the Libya issue and what happened to Qaddafi.  It was raised by the media back as far as 2015 and he responded to questions whether there was a model for these kind of talks and he mentioned Libya.  None of this is his fault and at least as far back as 2015 Un was saying he didn't want to end up like Qaddafi. The Libya model is a good one absent what Obama did but to claim Bolton caused Un to suddenly think about this issue is incorrect.

At this point we are watching gamesmanship and negotiation and both sides are playing their part.  From the outset I have never believed Un would give up his nukes because if he did head in that direction the military would likely take him out.  They understand that this is their biggest bargaining chip in their dealings with South Korea and China.  That and their total disregard for human life and the fact that no one knows what Rocket Boy would do.  

But the reality is that the normal course of these negotiations over the years always ended up with the U.S. being played.  So when the establishment forign policy wonks try to lecture us on Trump's approach I am frankly pretty much unimpressed.  Time will tell if his way is more effective or if it is as ineffectual as all the prior attempts.  I am willing to give Trump the benefit of the doubt because I know for sure the standard operating procedure has been an abysmal failure.

Trump said from the outset that he wanted to talk but that he would walk away if it was not a good deal or in what he thought was the good interest of the US.  Then NOKO leader started leaning toward no talk and the Liberal media thought "see Trump will not make this happen".  Who knows the best thing to do, but IT was on a collision course.

Well, you and I won't agree on Bolton.  

But it appears they are talking again and there may be a rescheule in the future.  Actually, I think China and Putin have more leverage over Kim and the talks, then anything else.  

Yes, have been part of many negotiations and it is a dance that must be played out.  There will be twists and turns along the way and much haranging over words, and commas.  The only thing that really matters is the paper that is eventually signed.  At least I don't think Trump will be a party to a "framework agreement" that leaves the details to others.

And maybe when Trump is done he can send it to Congress to actuall be able to call it a treaty so that future administrations can not decide to alter or delete it.

So now it seems Kim realized he overplayed his hand and has indicated he still wants to talk.  A chess game of immense proportions and thank God the community organizer is NOT the one moving the pieces.
