...and turns, dodges, changes, morphs, transforms and most of all…. Watches his polling.

Been away for a couple of weeks… and my, my… so much has changed.   After a Trump-centric convention most notable for speeches by his family members, lots of gee-whiz showmanship… I particularly liked the grand entrance scene when he stepped out of the mist in silhouette under the grand TRUMP sign.   The crowds loved him, and he ate it up… it was a narcissist’s wet dream.

Of course, the crowds did not include significant portions of the Republican Party, many of who refused to attend, distanced themselves and vowed to vote against him.   This left only the shards of the alt-right part of the GOP, politicians who were banking on riding his coat-tails into a future where immigrants are rounded up into deportation camps, ObamaCare is eliminated, and our enemies tremble before the power of Trump.

And then Trump matures into the astute statesman & politician we all knew he would become one day.   He bravely takes on the parents of a slain US soldier without regard for his own safety.   He cleverly determines that Hillary Clinton is physically ill from watching her on TV.   He endears himself to Black voters with a brilliant appeal:   “What the hell do you have to lose?”

And today, he comes out to change his signature immigration-deportation policy, saying “we have to work with them”   and it has to be “humane”.

Wow, and I thought he wouldn’t change.   Of course, I have to wonder why he changed…..

His campaign manager says he is changing because he is “listening to the voters”.   Funny, I haven’t heard too many of his supporters calling for him to become more humane or tolerant.    So, I’m left to come up with a few theories of my own.

  1.        He has had a religious revelation, a Come to Jesus meeting, wherein God spoke & gave him a new policy designed in line with his devout Christian beliefs of mercy and good-will toward men.   This will bring the Evangelical Right Wingers back into the fold.
  2.        He has decided that the GOP old-timers like Paul Ryan were right, and he cannot win if he alienates every minority in the US and only panders to the Angry White Guys.
  3.        He has a severe personality disorder and unstable, such that when his poll numbers start slipping, he forgets what he has said before and denies that he meant it in the first place.
  4.        He has a new campaign manager (another blond no less), who is an expert at capturing the female vote for Republican candidates.   She has told him that softening his immigration stand and seeming like less of a racist will bring moderate conservative white women back into the fold for him.   Seeing himself declining in the polls, he begins to listen to her…. But not to worry....he probably doesn’t really care about those minorities, & is only looking to entice moderate white voters.
  5.        He sees no reason not to change any position he has taken during his campaign, because he can do whatever he wants.   After all, he is & always will be The Donald

So, I’m left to wonder…   will the new Donald Trump still be revered by the super-conservative voters who fell in love the Non-politician who always “says what he really thinks?”

And have those guys really figured out what he thinks yet?

Copper, support for Donald Trump can be easily explained...no need for a dissertation and extreme scratching of the head.  His opponent is Hillary Rodham Clinton...a most vile, corrupt, unscrupulous and self-serving parasitic human being.

So what you are saying is that Trump is beginning to act like the typical scum sucking politician....well maybe he is smart enough to say what is necessary to get elected.  He is like Sleazeball Clinton, who in his reelection bid took every Republican idea and said " me too!", thus taking the wind out of Republican sails.  I am pleased that he has learned that strident, no exception statements don't win elections.  While idealistic, the hard line is not realistic.Get elected, then do what you like.

After all, that is the American way when it comes to politics.

No, I don't think Trump is the typical politician.  Not at all.  He is far worse than that.   What I am saying is that his supporters have consistently been blind to who & what he is since the beginning of his campaign.

Trump is a symptom of what is going wrong in our country, and the intense devotion of his followers to a guy who is so obviously unsuited to leadership is a symptom, too.
