Our family went to the Grillin' Shack on Gibson Road earlier this week for dinner and it is easy to give it an enthusiastic three thumbs up. Food was excellent; hot, prepared right, and tasty. Service was prompt and friendly. I understand they have plans for a screened in dining deck which should be great for late spring and early fall dining. We are looking forward to going back. Good job, Johnny Eagle!

3 Thumbs up - my wife, my son, and I make three!

We went there again tonight (Saturday) with a guest from out of town and everything was perfect again. Everyone truly enjoyed what they ordered, and the service was responsive and very friendly.

So, I guess it is FOUR thumbs up!

I would go north on 63 to US280. Southeast on US280 to Jackson's Gap taking a right onto West Lafayette. Then bear right onto Gibson Road. The Grillin' Shack will be about a mile down Gibson on your right.

Not a place to go if you are a vegan.

Steaks, chicken, pork chops, BBQ, with all the fixin's.

Adult and junior beverages. Salads. Top shelf desserts.

All you can eat chicken wings on Tuesdays.

Yes, you were less than specific when issuing your evaluation.

Please tell us what you felt was less than good.

We were there early Friday (6:30) evening and the place was packed with people waiting outside. We have been there several times and have enjoyed it each and every time. The staff is great and although they have been very busy everytime we've been there, they always have time to check on each and every table. John does a wonderful job of making sure you have a pleasant dining experience. If you have a place on that side (Sandy Creek) of the lake and you haven't been to the Grillin' Shack, you need to go there for dinner or lunch. We need to support John and the Grillin' Shack!!!!

Glad to hear so many have had good experiences on repeat visits. Our group must have caught them at a bad time...service very slow, others came in after our group and ordering same items, hamburgers, were served way before us. When burgers arrived several had buns burnt on both sides. Should have been caught in kitchen.

Owner who usually comes by tables was very busy running register and helping in kitchen. It was not overly crowded, many empty tables.

However, as stated, first experience was good. Realize everyone has an off day now and then, so we will try it ONE more time.

It was probably because some of the YOMS did not show up for work. I knew a guy, Alex, who ran the Cove several years ago. I went in one day and he was acting crazy. He was serving, seating people and cooking. Finally he ran through the place yelling SEX, SEX, SEX over and over again.

I got him outside and asked what was going on. He told me 6 of the girls did not come to work because they were out having sex.I suspect that those girls could be down at Cat's Ho's Hangout

Why do you say we "need" to support Johna and the Grillin Shack? Businesses and specifically restaurants "earn" peoples repeat business through, quality, service and price/value. I am sure he will do just fine as long as those three things are in line for most people. But I don't think anyone "needs" to support him unless they owe him for some reason.

...RadioActive has more than a passing interest in the success of The Grillin Shack. That is fine with me, as long as youstate your interest and not pretend to be an interested 'third party'. I have been there 3 times, 2 good expereinces, 1 bad. I will go back again, in fact going for wing night tonight.

I agree with maddog on this one....If your place is in a location where restaurants have a very difficult time making it REGARDLESS of how good the food and service is--and you appreciate someone giving it a try--yes, they need support!

Why wuold you say a location that has had a hard time making it? That location has done well everytime it has been opened. It didn't fail for lack of business, it failed each time from lack of management. The original "Lean Too Cafe" was great and made money every month it was open. Stop in the store sometime and ask Brenda why she closed it. It wasn't for lack of business, in fact it was the oppisite. She had plenty of business, but no dependable help.

The location is OK. Lots of traffic and the closest alternative for thousands of us. If managed correctly it should produce a decent income. But you can't do it with kids in playpens, and infants in carriers on tables, or the entire staff trying to support their 'bad habits'. I hope he does make it. It is way conveinient for me. But just as I stopped patronizing the store while Jay ran it in the ground, if the value is not there, I will not support the Grillin Shack either. But it certainly wont be because I am told I 'need' to support him.

And why the double standard in regards to the 280 Pit Stop? Many folks went way out their way to try LaPosoda, but I have not seen one other member comment on the Pit Stop. What it lacks in ambience it makes up for with good food and great prices. Gilling Shach has half rack of ribs for $11.99, Pit Stop has them for $7.99. I haven't personally tried either, not much of a rib man myself, but I would bet they are comparable in taste/quality but one is 50% more.

AS I said before, if RadioActive is going to advertise for the shack, he/she should disclose their relationship and not pretend to be dissinterested.

Well Swimmer27....I took your advice and went to the 280 Pit Stop this evening and had the ribs for $7.99. Let me tell you, I know barbecue and if that place depends on their ribs to stay in business, we'll see a "closed for good" sign on their door real soon. I would much rather pay the $11.99 for the Grillin' Shack ribs than to try to eats the ribs at the 280 Pit Stop. I hope you enjoyed your wings at the Shack. It looked like you had plenty of company there tonight.

I told you, I haven't tried either places ribs. Not a rib guy. I did try the AYCE ribs art County's in Auburn a while back. Worst meal I ever paid for. As long as they have been doing it, you would think they would know how by now.

You should have come over and said hello if you saw me there.

We went the other night with friends- very friendly staff and owner super nice guy. The ribs were the best thing that our table ordered except for- the Manoy Creek frozen drink! It was great! A few things that made the resturant seem a little like a fast food joint: imitation butter spread for your potato and imitation bacon bits,- not good at all. The napkins should be larger dinner napkins and not fast food like napkins, especially eating ribs. We will go back- but a few "upgrades" could really make this place much better.

No, that's a complete falsehood and accusation on your part. I have no interest in the place other than giving us another Lake Martin place to eat really good food.

If other restaurants in the area had this kind of food and service, they would not have gone out of business as they have.

Don't accuse from your anonymous position when you don't know the facts.
