For all of you who have read the past messages posted about Chuck's Marina and it's neighborhood I'd like to go on the record and say MOST of Greg's neighbors have NO problem with him or the marina. You couldn't have a better neighbor than Greg. He works hard everyday and yet always makes time to help one of us out. Most all of the neighbors enjoy the karoke and are seen there on many Friday or Saturday nights. If not, we got out on our porchs, decks, etc. and listen. (because you can't hear it inside) We're not a bunch of drunks or rednecks. We're parents, grandparents and children. We're professionals, blue collar workers, retirees, students and babies. All I ask is that you don't judge our neighborhood by one person who seems to have a very bad attitude and who does not speak for the rest of us.

Hi Lakelady!!
How long have you been on Chuck's slough?
I've been here since 1991.
How many people have to suffer with this nonsense until it can be called a nuisance?
When we started this court case against Chuck's....we had 20+ chuck's slough dwellers that gave money to fund the case. Is that enough? They chose to remain silent so we granted them that while we headed up the case.
It doesn't matter that you love to sit on your porch and listen to drunk rednecks scream and holler "UP AGAINST THE WALL REDNECK MOTHER...OR ME AND MY BOBBY MCGEE...OR GET DRUNK, GET HIGH, GET LAID" that goes with one of the songs you so called FAMILY PEOPLE love to sing.
We didn't have to put up with it when we first moved here, and we're not going to have to put up with it in the future.
Have your own parties...we are OK with that and always been, but we're not going to put up with an outdoor HONKYTONK...partying every weekend from April til October, in the middle of our neighborhood!
That's just the way it is. Get used to it!!

I have visited Chucks for pizza and to listen to my neice sing several times this year and haven't heard any of what you're talking about. Children are invited and participate in the singing. Some are good and some are just catawailing. But they are having fun. The songs seem to be screened to keep the bad ones out. If going there makes me a redneck, well I'd rather be me than be you. Greg is a good friend of mine and I support him. You're living proof that some people just hate to see others having fun. It gets loud sometimes but what the heck it's only one night a week.Sit back pilgrim drink ye sasparilla and enjoy the music.

Seems to me if you buy property near ANY marina.... you'd better be ready for whatever noise, disturbances etc... it has to offer! There's lots of other property on this lake not near marinas.
I've said it once and I'll say it again. It's a pleasure doing business with Greg and at Chuck's. One of my child's most fond memories of Lake Martin is her "debut" on the karoake stage! I'm glad we have such a neat place to patronize.
P.S. Have you considered moving????? I'm sure there's others who would quickly buy your place that would enjoy the activity of Chucks. To each is own!!!!

What you people fail to realize is....Chuck's Marina was a MARINA from the 1960's til just a few years ago. Now it's an outdoor HONKYTONK!
No one everyhad a problem with it until it became a HONKYTONK.
Even we used to go there when it was just once a month. Now it's every Friday and Saturday, holidays, days, and other special ocassions as they deem fit, from April thru October!
This past weekend was Friday night, band on Saturday day, and again on Saturday night!
When we moved in here BEFORE Greg bought the place, there was no HONKYTONK....that is the problem! It doesn't matter what you say. If you want to party...go to a club....not our NEIGHBORHOODS!!
We live here full time....DO YOU?
I do drink, like to have fun, just like the rest of you.....but you guys are having it at our expense. We live here and can't get away from it. You guys come here, Party, and then leave....we have to deal with it.
By the way....anyone who says they can't hear it in their house...is not a fan of the truth. I hear it in mine with no problem over my TV! If you don't believe it....come check it out.
Even the Marine Police at the court case said they could hear and make out the words at the end of the slough. And you expect people to believe that you can't hear it in your house? That's rediculous and not the truth...just the way you choose to see things.
Eventually, there will be a noise ordinance.....end of problem. It's coming, then you guys can go to Col. Tom's or the Rodeo Club.

Have I considered moving? NO!!
Unless you want to give me $250,000.oo to relocate. You know how much lake property costs...right?
Your question was rediculous at best.
What you've got to understand is....You are putting PARTYING over our neighborhood. And then expect us to sell and get out! Would you if I asked you to do the same?
First of all....I would never be so obsurd as to ask you to move. I also would have more respect for you than that.
There was NO KARAOKE OR HONKYTONK at Chuck's when we moved here in 1991. Now that there is....you just expect us to sell and move out?
You people amaze me sometimes with your attitudes.
When my father died this past August.....do you think I could just go on my back porch, have a beer, and reflect for a while in peace and quiet? NO....Not unless I wanted to put up with the noise.
But then again.....IT'S THE PARTYING THAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT...RIGHT?
To heck with the neighborhood....LET'S PARTY. That is as immature as I've heard.
You people need a reality check bigtime!!

One more thing....
You people that put Karaoke and Partying over the quality of living or staying on the lake....have lost contact with why you come to the lake in the first place.
MY FAMILY AND I LOVE THE LAKE!! I am here BECAUSE of the LAKE...NOT the partying!! HONKYTONKS come and go....but the LAKE and how we take care of it...is what's really important!!
When you can no longer see the stars in the sky because of the huge and bright lights of the marina....YOU'VE LOST SIGHT OF THE LAKE! When you can't hear yourself think because of the Karaoke and 200 more people singing along....YOU'VE LOST SIGHT OF THE LAKE!
But the party people couldn't care less...and they refuse to go to a club to do these things, and we have to endure the consequences. They expect us to move out all in the name of PARTYING.
People like that do not understand what a privilege it is to be on the lake, and probably never will.

I'm sincerely sorry,Stratman. My suggestion of moving was insensitive. I know how much thought and time we put into buying our lakeplace not to mention the time, money, sweat and effort which we've put into making it our lake home. The thought of "up and moving" from it would be terrible!
We do enjoy Chuck's and Greg has always been great to do business with.
Please accept my apologies for speaking out of line on something I should not have.
It is funny how different people are.... We have a family in our slough who think everyone wants to hear their music being played "very" loud on Saturday afternoons. Although it is usually nice music, there are times I just want to be quiet and wonder why they think we all want to hear it. However, others in the slough always seem to enjoy it ! My point being... what appeals to one doesn't to the other.
I wish for you many beautiful relaxing lake days!

Hi Luvdalake!!
Thank you for your kind words! No apology needed but thank you sincerely for your sentiment!
I can understand why people would like Chuck's....really.....I used to go over there when it was less frequent.
If I didn't live here....I'd probably be there myself every chance I could get.
I have been a musician since 1974. I love music and playing it and understand the draw it has on people. I am with you guys out there in the love for getting together and singing along and having fun for sure.
My only contention here is.....returning and keeping the quality of the neighborhood in which we first moved into.
It's the LAKE that is our first consideration and our main enjoyement!!
I'm sure you all out there can relate to that!
The marina has refused to work with us AT ALL! That was the reason for the lawsuit in the first place. Trust me...we tried to work it out before there were any lawyers involved. We have also had to fight the HARD LIQUOR liscense requests by Chuck's on the local level on several ocassions and will continue to do so in the future.
Anyone out there remember how bad the BOATHOUSE LOUNGE got before it went under? That....is what we don't want here for sure!!
That is why we keep on fighting what is happening in our slough! It's our homes that we are protecting! Not the value....that will always be there, it's the quality of our lives we are protecting and will continue to do so.
Thanks again! Sincerely,............Stratman.....

Have you been to the Cove lately? Went Friday night and had the neighbors put on the most hideous and LOUD music I've ever heard. Really must hate the Cove management to do such a thing....when in fact....it's the customer's that suffer. People are "so small" sometimes.
Meal was great and only wish a resolution could be made on the music factor.
PS I like Chuck's and Greg is a wonderful person. Hope those that have an issue with his establishment can come to some agreement....does it always have to be "all or nothing?"

Ask Greg.....
We tried to meet him half way but he refused.
Concerning the Cove....Yeah...the customers are the ones who suffer...but it's due to the management bringing in bands and not working with their neighbors.
Other than a law suit....what other way can they fight the establishment.
I like the Cove also, but naturally, I can understand the neighbor's problem they are now encountering.
If restaurants would stick to the restaurant business, No one would have a problem. It's when they get into the so called entertainment business in a neighborhood..that the problems begin.
One thing that strikes me odd is.....None of you out there ever offer to come talk to us and get our views. We are wide open for discussion and would be more than happy to talk it over with you.
Instead...you guys get infuriated because we don't want to put up with it.
You have to look at both sides of the situation before you can make an educated opinion on any matter.

We have had our place about 6 years now. We have several homes but spend most of our time at the lake. All summer and a lot of the winter. Through the week and most Sunday evenings it's all peace and quite. Stratman, you are in the minority here. It's the majority of our neighborhood that enjoys having Chuck's Marina nearby. It was the majority of the neighborhood that showed up at court to support Greg. I think the judge noticed that when he made his decision. I don't know about you but I wouldn't take my children to a honky tonk and I wouldn't have family gatherings at a honky tonk either. Fortunately, I can do that at Chuck's and have done so. This is for 3 hours, 8-11. I don't think honky tonks keep those kind of hours. Yes, 2-3 times during the summer there are special events. Out of 365 days in a year I don't think that's too much. I have seen and heard far worse partying going on at homes around our slough. They don't stop at 11pm. More like 2 or 3am and no one trying to control loud music or foul language. That's what I call being inconsiderate of your neighbors. I don't complain because I do have the choice of going inside not to hear it.

Bingo! You hit the nail on the head. The business was established as a Marina. Now if we had some consistent zoning guidelines then the marina could continue to operate as a marina, not as a night club. Right now I could move in next to you and start up a nice hog rendering operation and as long as it didn't offend the EPA you couldn't stop it.
I don't like regulations as much as the next guy but this is what starts to happen when there is growth and no land use or variance guidelines. You need procedures to change and modify uses. That makes the owner accountable to the neighborhood.
I sure would like to see some zoning and use requirements in the county. Maybe an issue for the next election?

So what you are saying is....
That we people that work during the week and look forward to our weekends, have no right to a nice peaceful lake weekend...right?
We were here before you....why is it all of a sudden that I have no rights and the partyiers rule?
I haven't started blasting you guys yet with my PA system like at the Cove...but unless we get some cooperation from you guys....that is up and coming...and I can do a much better job than the person next to the Cove!!
Remember.....there is no noise ordinance for now.....WE ALL CAN PLAY LOUD MUSIC!!
When I get out there....and you can no longer hear yourself attempt karaoke and get a dish of your own medicine....you guys will understand what I'm talking about!!
Also....the end of the court case is NOT the end of the fight. We're still working on this through higher avenues and we will win in the end!

Zoning and noise ordinances are up and coming.
As I have explained it to people in higher positions than all of us...The lake is undergoing GROWING PAINS!
These problems will have to be addressed and will benefit ALL OF US!!
I am in the process of taking this to the next higher level, and have addressed these problems with them and they are in the process of working on them!! THANK GOD!!
If the conclusion of this next effort is not satisfactory....I will take it to the next level above them until a bright enough spot light is shown on Tallapoosa County Government officials..and they will have to explain their actions to their superiors!
Everyone has a boss and WE ALL HAVE RIGHTS....NOT JUST THE PARTYIERS!!

Hi Roswellric....
You are exactly right!!
The reason local government will not rule justly is because they are afraid of not getting voted back in. That is a shame and it really makes me lose my belief in the judicial system.
For now.....The partyiers are having their way...but once the proper zoning and noise ordinances are in place...it will be much nicer..the way it used to be!!
This is already going in the same direction that the BOATHOUSE LOUNGE went in. It's only a matter of time before fate takes it's natural course. We'll wait them out and keep up the effort until justice finally rules in the end.

You sound like a child, "I was here first", "I was here first". Making threats to your own neighbors is also very childish. I don't work but my husband does and he gets plenty of rest and relaxation on the weekends. He also has to work sometimes on weekends and still finds time to relax. I believe I remember reading somewhere that you're 46. We're past that. We're not young folks that can burn the candle at both ends and we get ample time to rest and relax here. I'm not a psychiatrist but it seems to me that you have become obsessed with the subject of Chuck's. I've heard it said before that hatred is like a cancer, it will eat at you until it destroys you. Sit back and read all of your on postings for the last several pages. Then get on with a normal life like the rest of us.

Like lakelady said, YOU are the minority (even in the courtroom it seems). Please attempt to remember that in your whining rants and certainly in your threats. When you decide to childishly blast your mega-stereo system (which is far to big for someone your age--compensating for something?) remember that many of your pro-Chuck's neighbors and many more marina patrons have read the countless angry tirades that you have posted on this website. They may not be inclined to act in a civil manner toward such a malicious, ill-tempered individual. You are obsessed--get help or a life or a hobby.

Hi Blue Creeker!!
You the man!!
The partiers...for now...think they are the majority.
People like yourself, many of us on Chuck's slough, and other parts of the lake that are wondering if a Honkytonk will be coming to a neighborhood near them soon, are just beginning to hear each other and to unify!
This is a matter that will first be settled county by county, then on the lake as a whole.
Just like Russell Lands and Alabama Power's control of land sales, has helped preserve the pristine beauty of this lake, Lake Martin's citizens will get a belly full of these Morons soon enough and take action!!
WE.....are the majority....they just don't know it yet!
ANY OF YOU OUT THERE THAT WOULD LIKE TO GET INVOLVED TO HELP PRESERVE OUR NEIGHBORHOODS...PLEASE SEND ME AN E-MAIL THROUGH THE PRIVATE LINK LISTED HERE ON THIS SITE.
I look forward to your replies!!

You are misinformed. We did not lose the lawsuit.
We got Fridays....the Marina got Saturdays.
The Marina already has chosen to disregard that ruling by having an acoustic guitar player this past Friday.
Just goes to show their true colors....nothing more.
They also can only have bands 2 times the whole summer. They just had 1 of them this past Saturday. We will be counting...and if they screw up, they will be forced to answer for it. Rest assured!!
Anyone can speak about anything they chose to on this forum, until otherwise notified.

Free speech and truth......the judge's ruling stated no karoke on Fridays. There was no ruling against having an acoutic guitar player on Fridays. This went into effect June 1 and there hasn't been any karoke on Friday since then. Because I don't object to Chuck's Marina and I'm a patron of this business you have called me a partier, a redneck and I believe the last name-calling was a moron. I beg your pardon but we've never met, Stratman. You are borderlining on slander. That's not free speech. And if you think you haven't been making threats on this forum I suggest you get out a dictionary. BTW- don't turn my words around for your on satisfaction. I have no worry or concern for you personally. If you choose to live your days with bitterness and hatred that's your privilege. I choose to be a happy person and try to get along with everyone whether I disagree with them or not. I have been on Lake Martin all of my life and love the fact that there is something here for everyone. And one of the unique things is the variety of people who all share this lake and get along with each other.

I have slandered no one....threatened no one. I have promised fighting fire with fire by playing loud music on the weekend as well...same as you guys out there.
There is no law against name calling....are you hyper-sensitive? I countered with names to begin with because Sigmapi was referring to us as Morons and Bitter Old people that have lost their youth...something of which he has no idea as to what he's talking about.
The marina has chosen a loop hole on Fridays, simply because the judge refused to be specific about it. Not very honorable.
As I stated before....I have no hatred and am not bitter. Just keeping you partiers informed as to the status!!
I'll be hanging out and pop in when I can!

Zoning won't (normally) fix an existing noise problem. It would amount to the government taking away an existing use of income-producing property without compensation. When zoning comes in, any existing use is allowed for a reasonable period. Some places it is forever, others it exists as long as the IRS allows capital improvement deductions to be taken, which could stretch over 20-years.
A noise ordinance could help, but it cuts both ways. A resident have to be careful when firing up the 'ol jetski or rumbling inboards since a dB is a dB is a dB when it comes to measuring noise. Firing it up at 5 am could be a way to wind up in court, too.
If the county is getting tax money off the noise, as at Chuck's, the deliberative body is more likely to move slowly than in situations involving neighbors bothering the business, as at the Cove. Doesn't make it right, but that is just the way it works in the real world.
Sounds like stratman missed the chance to pre-empt the problem when Chuck's was for sale by buying it. That's expensive, extreme and simplistic, but it would have been a solution.

That would have been preferable....just couldn't afford it.
Who would have thought that a person would have turned Chuck's into the Honkytonk it is today. We had absolutely no warning.
A noise ordinance will help out that situation for sure. Don' see too many jetskis at 5:00am anyway....not much to worry about that. Besides...it's not jetski noise that is the problem anyway.....it's REDNECKS AT NIGHT!
Zoning will stop FUTURE HONKYTONKS!!

Its my observation that some folks get real frustrated when they cannot control the actions of others. For some unexplained reason they become irrational. If you dig deep enough you'll find the ones who resort to legal action will have a history of using the courts to impose their will upon others. My cousin was such a man till the anger ate him slap up. We called him Jack the sewer.
