Anybody out there have any experience with
bobcat management? It seems we have a large adult who has staked out
our house and probably hunting our cat. Flushed the bobcat out
from under the porch the other afternoon, then he (she?) walked up on us
while we were outside last night sitting by the fire.
Very strange to
have one staying so close to the house, I'm wondering if it's a female
with extra mouths to feed in her den. Thumper would make a plump meal,
and my two dogs have absolutely no desire to tangle with our new
neighbor. Is it even possible to trap & relocate a bobcat? Any
suggestions?

I doubt that it was a conservative that planted the bobcat. Conservatives kill 'em as advised by game wardens. If the animal is a nuisance, kill it, don't pass your problem off on someone else. Bleeding heart liberals pass the problem off to others. Boy, is that a truism!

Sounds like it would be an easy target. Or just get yourself a trap and use Thumper as bait! Oh,wait,that is what you are trying to avoid....
Good luck, seriously. Let us know how it turns out. Maybe you can get one of those humane capture cages and use some road kill as bait (not Thumper!).
I saw what I believe to be a bobcat crossing Coosa 20, but that was about 10 years ago. Wouldn't think it was the same one, although it could be I guess.

Bob isn't at the cabin, but at our house in Shelby Co. If I could relocate him to the lake, he could rid me of all the armadillos. I've been researching trapping, but these cats are wary and sight-oriented, unlikely to get into a baited live trap. Leg traps are out, we have too many friendlies in the area to risk catching a dog. Looked up Critter Control last night, but they don't even list bobcats as pests they will deal with. No kidding, I'm not sure I want to tangle with this guy myself. He must weigh 20-25 lbs.
As bold as this guy is, I would still have to walk around with a gun all the time and draw like Dead-eye Dick. He moves way too fast for me.
The big question is whether s/he is likely to move on naturally or if it has fixed on potential prey and will stick around. Anybody know anything about bobcat habits and behavior?

I save my AR-15 for criminals and not bobcats. Single shot with a 30.06 will do the trick for the latter pest. And unfortunately I cannot afford a zillion rounds like Homeland Security, I can only afford a gajillion rounds.

I'm certainly not bobcat expert, but I would suggest calling Critter Control. They could at least steer you toward some help if not handle it themselves.
I do hope you get him removed. The only bobcat experience I have had was not pleasant. A friend had to shoot one while deer hunting because the cat was climbing the same tree he was in and wasn't happy about sharing it. Those kitties are mean.

It may well be that a natural habitat in Shelby Co. could be hard to find or the competition is too great. It sounds somewhat like there may be some babies involved or, worst case scenario, rabid....very unusual for a bobcat to sidle up to your bonfire. I was on my pier crappie fishing one night about 10 yrs ago and witnessed a bobcat and a fox get into a ferocious fight near the entrance to my pier ....only lasted about 5 seconds and they went off on their seperate ways...needless to say I was getting ready to do some night swimming had they decided to join me on the pier.

Well, I called Critter Control this morning
and was told that for $275 + $135 per catch they would set traps for our
resident bobcat. However, they have less than a stellar record of
captures... these little guys are really wiley. So I declined and went
to the basement to begin my chores for the day, having let the dogs out a
few hours earlier. And there was Bob, making himself at home on the top shelf where Thumper sleeps. And the cat food was noticeably depleted.
Since he was trying to hide, I had time to get a gun and dispatch
him... but he escaped after being severely wounded. Tried following the blood trail, but the rain is coming down and washed it away quickly. Bummer, I had hoped
not to let him suffer.
However, I expect he won't return now. Wow.
He either came thru the kitty door between 7am and 9am this
morning.... or was indoors with both my dogs & Thumper all night!
Surely the dogs would have spotted him during the night.... on the other
hand, invading the house during daylight hours would be pretty darn
unusual, too.
Really weird.

There was a Black Panther in that area 9-10 years ago also. I saw it twice. The first time I kinda doubted what I had seen. It was right at dusk and definitely out of the ordinary, but then less than a week later I saw it again in almost the exact spot. I got a longer better look the second time and there is no doubt in my mind what I saw. It crossed over Madwind Road at the first residence on the left, near the intersection of Lafayette and Gibson. . The pet pen was not there at that time and I watched him all the way across the open field the second time. It was quite a while after that that those folks put up the fence and I think started breeding dogs. I actually chuckled at the thought of building a pet pen right in the path of an apex predator...lol
At the time I mentioned it to a couple of other folks who claimed to have known someone else in that area that had seen it, but hadn't seen it themselves. It is just like folks that claim to have seen Bigfoot ( the mythical one, not the one that roams this forum). I know what I saw.

I pulled a young bob cat out of a wood pile by his hind leg a few years ago. Had to let him go when he started rolling his body up toward my arm. I was protected by a thick coat and gloves but he was more than I wanted to handle.
I also saw a beautiful medium size blackish/purple panther with a thick coat, large feet, and long tail cross hwy. 14 near Wetumpka on the way to work one morning. I thought my heart would jump out of my chest.

I regret having to kill him, but he was definitely crossing the boundary of our space. We spend a good bit of time outdoors here, especially at night around a firepit. He could have been around us for a long time before making his presence known... but holy cow, why would a bobcat intrude into the house?
Later in the day I found him in the woods, and I think I'll get the carcass examined tomorrow. The dogs finished him off, but they don't have any wounds. Going to make sure my dogs' shots are up to date, too. Rabies is nasty stuff.

I seriously doubt he has your kitty in mind for dinner.. My cat has several diffrent animals as friends such as deer, fox, coons and opossum. with the opossum being the least friendly.. I have a friend in Dobbs Subdivision that had a bobcat hanging around for years. I now have a couple of bobtailed cats that i got from him, go figure. Sit back and enjoy watching him don't feed him intentionally but if he gets in the cat food so be it. My last cat played with a litter of foxes it became an evening gathering for me and my neighbors to watch them as they played together. It was my on dog and a neighbors dag that killed my cat!! Consider yourself lucky to be able to see nature at its finest!!!!
