Don't know who watched the Super Bowl last night, but if you did, what did you think about the National Anthem? I think I would have rather heard it sung by a group of school children than hear it screeched like that.
I'm wondering why at these big events, they always get some celebrity to sing it who feels the need to add extra notes, screech it or forget the words... Why can't they find someone that can really sing, and just sing it the way it was written? Oh, and maybe rehearse it enough so that they can remember the words...
I feel like starting a national movement to bring back the national anthem as it was written. And maybe pass legislation to make it illegal to add extra notes or to insert other words...

I could not agree with you more. From what I read this morning she just screwed up the lines rather than adding artistic license. But I hate all the improvisation as they try to put their own personal touch on a song that needs no personal touch. Martina McBride (a country singer) did the national anthem at the AFC Championship in Pittsburgh and it was fantastic.....and she got the words right.
Of course as Steeler's fan for me that was just the beginning of not enjoying the game, punctuated by the absolutely horrible half time show. There were probably only six Black Eyed Pea fans at the game and not many more at home. It was one of the worst. I would rather have them bring back one of the geriatrics and have them play versus the one they had this year.

I think it shows either ignorance or arrogance about the honor of singing the Star Spangled Banner. Maybe both. The anthem should be sung out of respect for our country not out of an attempt to bring acclaim and adoration to the singer. I thought the game was great but the Aguilera's rendition, the halftime show and the infantile ads were at best way beyond good taste and at worst and indication of the general debasement of the culture. I don't think the NFL has a clue who watches the game. Maybe next year... a good movie.

I too saw and heard Martina McBride do our National Anthem for the AFC playoff. Beautifully performed and WITHOUT embellishment.

We watched Secretariat yesterday evening after the game. Highlight of the day far as I am concerned. I've stopped caring to watch the half time shows. Even when it is a good performance, the sound is usually so poor it could be anybody doing the set and you couldn't tell.

I hated the half time show too. Fergie seemed to be screaming the lyrics. And that whole thing with Usher seemed confused. Thought the commercials were boring.
Loved the movie Secretariat. What a great horse.

You actually know the names of the people in that band?!? Maybe they announced their names and I wasn't paying attention but if you did before then I am either scared or admire your dedication to popular culture. :-) I will have to ask my daughters if they know the names because every time they come on the satellite radio they change the station. I had heard of the band but that is the extent of it........

Agree completely ... plus she screwed it up and sang one verse twice. Come on ... if you don't know the words by heart, practice until you do ... you are on a national stage and everyone is watching.
I thought the girl from the show Glee did a wonderfule job with God Bless America.

I watched that on Saturday night ... I am from NY and remember that time well. Thought they did a great job with the movie.

We listened to about two bars of that "music" on the half-time show. That was it... the mute button functioned perfectly. I am tired of "in yo face!" garbage that is now days passed off as music.

While I do try to keep up to some extent, I was watching Sunday Morning yesterday morning and they had a piece about the band.
Sadly, most of the time I have no idea who todays actors, actresses and other performers are or what they are in/sing. It's one of the reminders that I'm getting old.

I feel better... :-) I'm like you, sometimes I feel a little out of place when I am in a conversation where everyone seems to know some performer or TV show and I haven't even heard of them let alone having seen them.

While watching the game, Hound told me during one commercial it was M&M. I was really confused since I thought it was a Chrysler Commercial.
|
Feb obviously stopped paying attention somewhere around 1968.
He told me the other day that he had never heard the Beatles song "When I'm 64"
But he has watched the movie "8 Mile" with me.
