If you are getting your tags renewed in Coosa, you will be told that you need an appointment.  What you won't be told, but is the case, is that appointments are only a suggestion of when you should go and get in line.  Had a 10:15 appointment today and finally got in at 11:55.  The lines were long and everyone in line had an appointment.  Apparently, some people early on were late and that just compounded the problem.  You will be required to wear a mask, and you cannot take anything like a purse or backpack in with you.  Also, was told today that they had extended the renewal period for one month (so if you were due in May, now you would have until 19 June).  If you are only renewing your Driver's license, make sure you let them know, because that wait period is much shorter.

Thanks for the heads up!  I was going to be heading down to Rockford in a couple of weeks to register a boat and was going to just show up like I normally do.  I would not have been happy it sounds like...  I really don't like all of these Covid-19 changes we are all having to deal with.

If you are just renewing your boat/PWC registration, you can do that on-line.  Not sure about car tags, however.

You are supposed to be able to do that, but I could never get it to work on my cars.  That's why I ended up with an "appointment".

Was told/confirmed this directly by issuing clerk in LEE county on 5-14-2020 while renewing my drivers license which would expire May 31; was there because I was told earlier same thing on phone by probate office while still closed. And since going to Florida and staying into June would possibly be ticketed if checked. Had they not reopened I would have had to take a chance.

What was told IN probate office when re-opened........

While there is an extension on drivers license renewal in Alabama....IF you travel to another state and are checked, they may not honor this as only Alabama passed this. Other states, like FLorida, do not have to and may not honor this and charge you with driving with expired license.
