One of my neighbors got one of those but the pictures were of another neighbors place. My nephew is building now and the permit folks told him they photograph every inch of shoreline every year.

Why does this not surprise me...I'm surprised I haven't gotten one yet, since they changed and changed our boathouse design. Even when they told our architect that it was fine, it wasn't

I also received a certified letter Friday. After reading the letter again this morning, it would appear that there is no action required, but rather they are establishing a base line for your waterfront. Their enclosed picture identified all waterfront structures even including my yard pump, old sidewalk, and a temporary wooden kayak rack sitting on my ramp, all of which they labeled "legacy structures." I called Rhett for confirmation of this, but he is probably just swamped with calls. Not sure why the need to send these as certified mail. Sure, it got my attention, but I think it is also causing unecessary angst.

I think what we're seeing with the photos and certified letters is APCO playing catch up with the FERC regulations. During the relicensing there were some filings by both parties concerning the lack of records and approvals for shoreline developments. APCO's records did not have many of the old structures that were built before formal approvals were required, so now they are recording everything with photos. If the structure went thru the approval process, you shouldn't get the certified letter.

We got our letter last summer. Basically all they are doing is making you fill out a new permit form that includes anything that was not on your old permit. If an item is marked "Legacy" you don't have to do anything with it as long as you have not changed it. Be aware that the latest permits have restrictions that were not on the permit we submiited about 6 years ago. We had a few of those and Apco marked them "Legacy". Their way of knowing that it was allowed prior to current regs.
