If this becomes law in San Francisco, I will forget WOKE, LBGT, or Trump and his crimes. Rather, I will just annouce my great, great,great grandmother dated a black dude. Can't beat the deal...going start downsizing for the move to San Fran. And, I can continue to post on the Forum from the West Coast .

I'm sure I have some African blood somewhere in the woodpile that can score me some big bucks.  What makes this so incredibly stupid, other than the fact that it will never happen, is that the slave supported percentage of GDP prior to abolition was in the range of 3% to 6%.  So this lie that the country was made on the backs of slaves is just that, a lie.  Sorry but 3% to 6% of GDP is not exactly the backbone of our pre-Civil War economy......not even close.

The only downside is that I might actually have to go to California to collect my Benjamins.....might not be worth it.

About 1 to 2 years ago Taxifornia had a budget surplus of around $100B (mostly due to Fed'l ChiCim virus money).  Today they are in the hole to the tune of $22B due to their socialist nonsense spending.  However, based on census data, the state currently has around 2.3M black citizens that would apparently be eligible.  Of course if these nut jobs actually passed reparations the number would probably go to 20M overnight.  So just based on a proposed reparations of $360K and the current number of black citizens in the state it would cost a paltry $648B.  Bump the number to $5M each and it comes to the tidy sum of $1.2T.  That's $1,150,000,000,000.

Now bear in mind, unlike the Federal government a state can't print money so their only recourse is to either raise taxes or issue bonds.  Call me crazy, but a state that is losing taxpayers in droves who are being replaced by illegal aliens, homeless, etc. would not be exactly ripe for a AAA bond rating......more like D- and an interest rate of 15% which they would default on if anyone was stupid enough to buy them.  Also, bear in mind that the total annual budget for the state is around $200B so this one proposal would cost anywhere from 3 to 6 times it's annual budget.  This is why you can't trust leftists with the reins of government.

i've been following this story for some time.  I read a rather long description of how they are arriving at these numbers.  the thing is, I could pick apart their arguments without trying very hard. 

A lot of it is based on the assumption that if there had never been slavery, blacks would be thriving.  But it ignores that if there had never been slavery, most of their ancestors would have been left in Africa.  When you look at Africa - is there any indication that blacks there are thriving?  I have seveal friends that have been to Africa on church mission trips, and for a lot of them, it was the first time they had ever seen poverty on that level.  

If anyone ever actually enacts payments to the ancedstors of black slaves, we will be doing it forever, because there is no end.  And you know what, blacks won't be better off for it.

Your analysis is spot on.  When you look at the "plight" of blacks in America compared to what their fate would have been had their ancestors never been brought here it is not even close.  I have long maintained that I am fine with reparations as long as we base them on the average income of the country where their ancestors were removed from......if you do that they will owe the U.S. money, not the other way around. 

The whole thing is absurdly silly and nonsensical.  Despite the horrid experience of those impacted by black slave traders in Africa that sold to white slave traders and their awful experience under slavery in the U.S., those that are their descendants living in the U.S. today are far better off than the descendents of those that live in Africa today.....far, far better off.

i absolutely agree. And consdieer all the opportunities that are open to them since the 60s.  I knew and worked with a lot of well educated black people over the years.  I think the majority of those that think they should be "paid" are not likely to ever be successful, because they refuse to take advanage of the opportunities they have.  INstead they want something free presented on a silver platter by white people.  And as I said, even if they got money, they would still find something to complain about.  

It's like Angela Bassett not winning the Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars.  She was outraged that it was given to a white woman becasue Bassset felt she was entitled to it.  So all the black folks are calling "racism".  Perhaps she would have liked a participation trophy.
