Are there any road cycling groups in LM? We have been coming up once a year for the past 3 years and ride different routes around the Lake. Looking for info on longer rides, while staying off of the big hwys.

Just make sure you cycle at the same time and locations that they do in Bham. Pick the busiest roads at the busiest times of day. Make sure the road you choose has no shoulder or cycling path on it so traffic has to come to a crawl or drive in the other lane to get around the cyclist.

Someone ask pretty much the same question a while back. Do a search and see what you come up with. I think it was the same person I offered boat driving lessons too. :)

Also make sure you ignore every traffic law, run stop signs and stop lights, come up on our right side into our blind spot and then flip us off when we don't see you and turn right cutting you off like they do in Atlanta.

There are no good biking roads anywhere in the Sandy Creek area where we have a house. I would stay on the west side of the lake.

Please stay on the North Side. Driver's are much more safety- conscience up there..... So I hear.

I didn't know you offered boat driving lessons...would I get to practice driving with your boat??

Stay off the highways - go fat tire. No way I would get on the roads around the lake on a bike, combine trucks with trailers, drunks with trucks and CATS with boats - you will be clipping in to a donorcycle....

Yea, you can drive. No I don't really offer boat driving lessons. It was one of those threads that got out of control. In a funny sort of way. Before you can drive, you have to learn how to tie it to a dock using bumpers.

I remember the thread...and was joking too. I definately know how to tie it to a dock using my set of bumpers...but do different sets tie differently?? If so, I'll need to practice with all types...

Thanks for the great advice. We currently log over 4000 miles a year; sharing the road with motorists, in a much more populated area than Lake Martin. Cycling is dangerous, along with many other things, I'll take my chances doing the things I enjoy. We will ride the roads we have ridden in the past, and I'm sure we'll find a few more routes. There are alot of members on this board, it's nice to see only a few offering such negative advice.

Apparently you are new to the board. Please keep in mind, we have a bunch of folks here with a sense of humor. Nothing personal I'm sure.

Russell Trails have tons of new mountain bike style trails. lots of elevation change, great scenery. Mostly on the west side of hwy 63 between Ourtown and Kowaliga.

North could include northeast which is a little too close to Sandy Creek.
