for the inspiration for the below post on my blog.
A while back the boataholic linked a great site for old maps of the Lake Martin area, or all Alabama counties for that matter.
Thanks boataholic,
John C

It is a lot of work but has been fun.
I think people like to search by map when looking on the lake. FYI our mls now has a function so that you can search by map. Right now only realtors can use it, and it only works if the listing agents have geo-coded each of their listings correctly. It is really cool. Coming soon, the public will be able to search by map. We are pressing the MLS company to make this available ASAP. Then anyone will be able to look at a map of the lake (like on google) and draw a rectangle or polygon around their desired area, then add other criteria (like # of bedrooms) and then click "search" to see results. Right now the search that is available for the public is not very user friendly IMO because it forces you to enter city name (which might be input incorrectly or at least is counterintuitive). I am excited about the future with the searches, it will put our MLS at the lead among MLSs in the nation for technology, I think.
Anyone can create a Google map like I did with the different features. You just create different maps (I made 1 map for each feature like marinas, listings, office, etc) on googlemaps and then mash them together on a site called mapchannels.com. Mapchannels has videos and tutorials on how to do it.

You are quite welcome. I really like what you are trying to do with the maps on your site.
