Had my floating dock covered with Trex boards instead of the crappy treated lumber they use these days. The method for preserving lumber leaves much to be desired. Trex is about twice the cost but will last forever. Here's a picture of the finished work. Compare how nice to the permanent dock.

Looks good. But what I have priced is more like 3 times. Still forever vs 7 to 8 years is real

I had my dock built with composite about 3 years ago. The only criticism I had was that there was some sag between Joist even though the installer used 1 foot centers. The composite must be more pliable than Yellowood.

Looks great. Make certain it doesn't get too hot in direct sunlight before you do the entire dock as composite does get hotter than pressure treated.

Yeah, my deck at home is Trex and it does get hot. We have carpet that we lay on top of the floating dock which also gets pretty hot. We deventually decided to just lay the Trex over the existing decking to prevent it from sagging since the support beams are 2' on center rather than the recommended 16 inches.

We did ours a few years ago and then we did our walkway from the driveway to the porch last year. we also replaced our steps from the yard up to the porch. I have no complaints with it, and it beats the hassle of having to treat the wood. It is expensive, but as others have pointed out, once it is there you will not have to worry about it again. And that is something to be said as we all get older.
