And what is wrong with that?  What exactly is wrong with America first.  Every other country acts in their own best interests, yet when we finally do, liberal leaning folks get upset - this isn't post WWII, and we're done with the Marshall Plan.  its time we stood up for ourselves, and stopped worrying about everyone else.

First of all, I would be happy to pay more for goods made in the U.S.  

Before we started importing a lot of cheap crap from Asia and East Asia, people bought less and the quality was better.  

If things become more expensive, then people will just have to buy less.  Is that really a bad thing?

Buying less is bad...It leads to fewer jobs, layoffs, foreclosures, repossessed cars, late credit card payments, and eventually a recession. Our economy needs buyers to sustain it...it provides sales tax to states. Keep in mind if the price is raised due to a tariff, the money goes to the Treasury...it does nothing for the local economy other than a higher sales tax for the state.

Go back and read her post again.  The goods bought at a higher price are American made.  The ones not bought are the imports that were cheap but are no more.  Net effect is a plus for American made goods and the employees who make them.

We import 86% of the aluminum used in the US. including 36% from Canada.

Are goods made in the US with aluminum from Canada with a 25% tariff considered American Made? The price of the product will rise and less will be bought was the question. Is that good or bad??? And I responded............... It all depends on the elasticity of demand for the product.

Game of chicken Archie, played by a sophisticated administration.  They see the loss in US innovation as exemplified by the downturn in patents and R & D budgets as a significant drag on the US economy.  All you free traders have some blame to share.  Trump is all about the economy as witnessed by todays unemployment stats.  I hope these tariffs don't last for a long period of time, but it will be interesting to see who blinks first.

In complaining about Democrats not doing what they were elected to do.  Actually they are doing what they were elected to do in the divided and gerrymandered country we live in today.  They were elected to stop the Republicans and Donald Trump from getting anything done!  Between 2009 and 2016 the Republicans were likewise elected to stop the Democrats and Barack Obama as demonstrated their pledge early in the Obama administration that their primary purpose was to ''make sure Obama is a one term president''!  There once was a time most Democrats and Republicans had at least some ideological overlap and were willing and even considered it their charge to work together whenever possible and to always put the country ahead of party or ideology.  Until and unless those days return the nation will continue to race to the bottom!

So in your deranged mind, the sole purpose of the Democrats is to derail President Trump's objective of "Making America Great Again". From my viewpoint he is operating on a high note with nothing but total obstructionism from you, GoneFishin, and the remaining Democrats who place themselves above the country. I am watching TV at the moment and U.S. employment numbers just hit a record low of 3.8%. Also, unemploymnt of women just hit the lowest level since 1939. But yet you still basically "oppose" all his policies. How can you possibly be in favor of seeing a continuation of everything that was falling in to place just the way their plans were coming together? It is sickening to even think about where America would be today under Hillary's leadership!

I said the problem is that most members of congress today are doing exactly what they were elected to do because the country is so divided and gerrymandered that the middle ground that believes in political give and take no longer have any say! I do not consider this a good or natural thing...in fact l think it threatens the well being of the nation!  I do not think the Democrats should consider it their sacred duty to oppose Trump no matter what any more than it was for the Republicans to do the same for Obama.  Some of us (most of us ?) prefer a middle ground on most issues...I oppose abortion but do not feel it is my right or the governments duty to force any woman to bear a child...I support an overhaul of healthcare based on each individual being required to purchase insurance and pay something for it, even if heavy subsidies are also needed, while making it illegal for employers to provide any form of health coverage...I support tax reform but it needs to be real reform which takes ALL taxes we pay into account rather than income tax alone...I support fair trade but you don't get fair trade by turning on your friends and doing stupid things that hurts our own people as much as or more than it hurts the economy of the nation against which the actions are directed...I despise the existence of "Black Lives Matter and consider it an insult to America, but I think it is time to get to the bottom of why BLM Is able to exist, there is a conscious or unconscious systemic built-in bias in many police forces...l support doing all we can to bring stability to the Korean Peninsula as long as we are not giving away the store just so an egominiacal president can get a Nobel prize!!!

I am pleased and thankful the economy is good and continuing to improve as it has been doing since 2010 ( the longest recovery on record...how long can it continue?) and even though it is still lagging in the number of new jobs created in the 15 months since Jan 20 2017 as opposed to the 15 months before...please direct me to your congratulatory posts pre 2017.
