Anyone in the Narrows area seen any evidence of feral hog activity? We have seen some convincing evidence in the last few weeks on the west side just before the narrows. Could become a real problem.

'Tuni' has it right..  Shot a 248# guy at our hunt camp a few years back..  Not sure where the 'Narrows' is, but have gun will travel..

Shoot a Mid weight female.  Best dang Pork you will ever eat.  I am serious.  Not sure about the big Bore Hogs, but get you a small one.  Its common here in the Country.  Just Eatin'.

The Narrows is in Coosa County, on its north side, like you're going to Oakachoy Creek.

If you're in one of the hunting clubs over there, yes, shoot every one you see. We had a game warden come speak to our club in Tallapoosa County and he said that a mandatory "shoot on sight" rule for hogs is not a bad idea. Estimates say that you have to remove like 70% of the population every year, just to limit the population # at the current. You have to remove higher than 70% to affect the population.

My brother has a ranch in near Austin. Says these things will eat anything and eveything.They are out of control in Texas. Kill eveyone you see. They carry flesh eating disease as well. Be careful handling them.

Last year, one of our neighbors reported seeing feral hogs in the area of O.A.T road (off Coosa 20).  Where abouts are you seeing evidence of the feral hogs?  Also, what does evidence of feral hogs look like?

Look for areas in the woods that appear to have been plowed... the hogs dig for roots with their snouts.   In the Smokies (that's where my experience with them comes from), their rooting damages vegetation and leads to erosion on the slopes.   I haven't seen anything like this in the Oakachoy area but will keep an eye out.

A recent article from a local hunting magazine published about Monroe county describes how dramatic the population of domestic-hogs-gone-wild can be.   The writer describes how to build pens to trap them, and he claims to have caught 'up to 34 hogs at one time'.   

They must breed like bunnies......and no natural predators to keep the population under control....

these guys in Columbus may have come as close as possible to perfecting the art. They combine pens with night vision hunting. Obviously you can't do this around the lake but they do a lot for commercial farmers and hunting preserves, their videos are awesome:

We have seen (and heard) them late at night feeding in the woods behind our house. We are off Coosa 20 as well.  They have torn up the ground in some sandy soil areas next to the lake shore high water line, and have marked up some tree trunks with their tusks. We have also caught wind of them when the direction is right. I just hope my yard is not next on the demolition list.

These things will multiply by the thousands and will eat anything. Kill them all. No known enemies but man.
