Lake Martin is much too clean to be good bass fishing territory. Bass like nutrient rich water, which promotes underwater grasses, algae and murky, polluted water with lots of water grass shallows. Be proud that our lake doesn't fit that category.

I'm not a bass expert so I'll defer to you.  We do have bass tournaments here though don't we? Maybe it would be like having the Masters... a difficult challenge. I'm really ignorant as to what goes on to promote the area here. It just seems like there's not much happening. Maybe optimism is in a recession too...

I enjoy Bass fishing from time to time on Lake Martin.  There are many tourneys heald at LM by small and medium sized clubs.  I have a couple of teams sponsored.  Also, there are several "Lake Martin Fishing guide services" on the lake. I believe they guide for all species of Bass.   In my opinion it would be a great idea to host a large bass tourney on Lake Martin.  I'd imagine it would be good for area eateriesm boat shops and economics for a week or so at least.  My .02 worth.

Then why is Smith Lake on the list? And is Lake Jordan not below Martin?

Crappie Masters in Prattville now. Practice all week long. Folks from all over the Country fishin' here. At the Prattville shop, we welcome the out of town business. Yea, it's a Bass Pro promotion, but it is great for Prattville as a community. All motels full, and we don't dare go and eat out this week. Everyone crowded. (: Good for local bussiness, And us too as a local business here it is great. And, I don't think Lake Martin is on the "Fish List". I will check though. Man, I wish it was. I would love a few more repair orders marked "RUSH".

Here is the schedule. FYI, it's a pretty good show if anyone wants to drive to Prattville this week. These guys are as serious as the Bass fisherman.

No, Lake Jordan is not on the Tallapoosa River, so it is not below Lake Martin. The two "lakes"-- really more like wide spots in the river caused by small dams-- are Yates and Thurlow.

I don't think having good bass fishing and having a clean lake are mutually exclusive.

I certainly am not opposed to having a BassMaster event here on a regular basis. I think it would be wonderful for tourism, the area, the lake in general, etc. I remember when I was in high school there was one, we drove out to the CACC where they had a meeting, met some of the pros, went to the weigh in, it was a lot of fun.

I think it's like golf.  I have a lot of good friends that are golfers, but I am not a golfer. In fact I think it's kind of a dorky way to spend 4 hours.  But would I oppose a PGA event at Willow Point? No! I think it would be great for the lake just like a Bassmaster event.  I would be tickled about it and would help promote it.  Since we don't have a PGA event here, am I "Glad that our lake is (not that dorky)?" Of course not.

We can have our bass, you dorky golfers, and clean water too! ;)

It doesn't seem so long ago that there was a huge B.A.S.S. tournament event on LM.  It was being filmed by ESPN and I recall seeing one of the key participants being closely followed by the espn boat as they came into our slough...they came in...fished 5 minutes and left at blazing speed (same as they came in)....

Steve and John, I merely tried to answer the question posted. I have been told by fishery personnel at the state level and fishery professors the answer I gave. Doubt it if you wish, but it comes from the real authorities in this state. I don't fish at all so I certainly have no opinion. The decision to include or exclude Lake Martin was made at the state level and the first I heard of it was today on this thread. Would the recognition help tourism in the area....you betcha. Yes, there are bass in this lake, but not at the quantities found elsewhere. Now stripes...that's a different story. Martin is one of the best striper lakes.....promote it.

Bigfoot you are correct. Just an fyi, went out Saturday and caught 10 largemouth bass in 2 hours avg weight probably 1.5 to 2 pounds and if not mistaken the local Friday night fishing tournaments avg winning bass is 5+ pounds so cannot say Martin does not have some decent size bass so why was Martin not included in the trail list?? So thinking of calling bass to inquirer why as does not make sense.

Why is seemingly everyone so hell bent on increasing activity on our beloved lake? Maybe I'm an anomaly, but I sure do enjoy the P&Q for the most part around here. I didn't invest in this beautiful piece of America to be overrun by every td&j that draws a breath. So give the Bassmasters, Drunkapalooza, and everything else a break. Let's appreciate the diamond in the rough that we have for now because it won't be too far in the future when you'll be wishing for "the good ole days."

"Lake Martin is much too clean to be good bass fishing territory. Bass like nutrient rich water, which promotes underwater grasses, algae and murky, polluted water with lots of water grass shallows. BE PROUD OUR LAKE DON'T FIT THAT CATEGORY". Ok, I can't find that quote anywhere. But, I get your point.

The problem with Lake Martin and Bass Fishing Commercialization is there is not enough stuff under the water to snag and loose your lures on. Therefore, no promo opoturnites for the lure mfgs. Lake Martin makes weedless lures obsolete. I bought one of those fancy Alabama multiple hook lures, and I can't wait to use it. You may want to take a look at it on the below link and buy one or two.

DUDE such generalizations are stupid. And from what I have seen,  if you have to make a generalization, realestate sales men look a whole lot more like they would puff one all day long if you stuck it in their beak that golfers do.

You need new glasses and a better mirror.

LMAO, bet you ten bucks that makes the end of year awards. Heck, I wouldnt want "Rush" repair orders, but would simply like to keep the catch alive until weigh in. I needed that post this morning. CAT, Headed to the lake for a few days.

It was Ulysses E. McGill who once told me that the photographer always had the fisherman hold them way out front to make them look larger.

All you have to do is bend the wire on the lure to whatever width you want it to be retreived at. I understand this lure has been outlawed in the Bass tournaments. It caught way too many fish the first year it was used in the tournaments. I believe Greg Vinson wrote an article in the Lake Martin Living Magazine about it. Remember water distorts things. As an example, you might thrust your spear at one spot and the water distorts things to where your spear hits a different place.

No "i".  At your advanced age, you should know that lakes are kind of like people.  Lakes can't be all things to all people.....they specialize, too.
