Since you and others have repeatedly been asked by several members to answer the question, What has Obama done to make you proud of your vote?, I cut and pasted this response in the comments section on an ABC News blog. I don't agree with a word of it, but I admire the writer for stating facts that they claim, no matter how misguided that claim may be, that back up their postion. Feel free to regurgitate it back to us anytime you are asked to support your vote in the future.
Cut and paste:
So why exactly did you vote for Pres. Obama??????
----
Back when he was running for state senate, I met him while visiting friends in Chicago. Though I wasn't a potential voter, we still talked for a half hour. He's well-versed on issues, smart, warm, engaged, and just good people. I've followed him ever since, and while I don't agree with him all the time, I agree with him more often than I have any Republican.
I think he's doing a decent job given the hand he was dealt. And I think his heart and soul are in the right place, which is more than I can say for people like McCain, Palin, Ron Johnson in Wisconsin, Christine O'Donnell, Sharron Angle, Newt Gingrich, etc. Obama is for the people, he's pragmatic and there isn't anyone on the horizon right now or in '07-'08 that I see doing a better job, though Hillary was a good candidate as well, and had she won the primary, I would've voted for her. Preferred Obama, would've voted for Clinton as I did for Kerry.
I've listed the achievements I appreciate ad nauseum, but here they are again:
Health care reform... check.
Sander's community health centers... check.
Financial regulation reform... check.
Stimulus including progressive-esque investments in infrastructure, rail, green intitiatives, health IT, education, science... check.
student loan reform... check.
Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act... check.
new regulation of the credit card industry... check.
new regulation of the tobacco industry... check.
a national service bill... check
expanded stem-cell research... check.
a nuclear arms deal with Russia ... check.
a new global nonproliferation initiative ... check.
the Hate Crimes Prevention Act ... check.
a sweeping land-protection act, the most sweeping in well over a decade... check.
draw down of troops in Iraq... check.
expanded benefits to veterans... check
