Hello to all forum members! I have read these forums for a long time but never joined or posted until now and found them interesting, informative, and helpful. My wife and I are going to be doing a Lake Martin Road Trip loop by car around Lake Martin on February 15 and then doing a photo/journal article about it for a local magazine. We are looking for some really "off the beaten path" type of places to visit, photograph, eat at, folks to talk to, and things to see that involve local lore, history, legends, and sights. I have been visiting the lake since 1991 and have lived here since 2004 so know the geography pretty well--we are looking for the obscure, fascinating, and even bizarre in order to expose folks to the less well known but equally interesting side of the lake. If you have any tips, or suggestions, please post them here so we can keep an accumulated list.
You can also e-mail to:
roberts_crew@bellsouth.net if you prefer to keep your suggestion relatively "under wraps" until the article is finished. Thanks for your time and consideration. Doug

You will want to check out the old Oakachoy Covered Bridge site. Even though the bridge was destroyed by a fire several years ago, it is an interesting place to visit as you may already know. The beautiful old stone bracings for the bridge faces are still there.

There are also wagon wheel ruts still visible in the stones to one side of the old bridge location. It was a fordable spot prior to the covered bridge construction.

You can also check out the Ghost Story associated with site. Below is a link to the haunting

I know location of an Indian Graveyard (we believe it to be Indian; we are no experts) in the Bay Pine Area. If interested, contact me.

There is an old rock building within the lakebed which had not been exposed in many years (per my lake neighbor) until the water dropped to a historic low this past winter. About 4 feet of the building was exposed about a month ago.

It is off of Sturdivant Road in the Jackson Gap area of the lake up in the slough on Sturdivant. Was goinig to try to locate it about a month ago, but never made it over there.
