Well today we learn it took 400 good guys with guns to stop a "bad guy with a gun" in Uvalde, TX and even then not until he had killed 21 people and injured many more!

It only took one guy.  God knows why the others stood around.  So what if it had taken 500 guys?  Should they have not let more than a certain number go?  What is the cutoff to save kids?  I don't understand your post at all.  There were obviously problems with the entire ordeal but what are you saying?  A lot of children were killled.  A lot of families will never be the same. Lives lost, ruined and you seem to be mocking the number of 'good guys' on the scene, who yes, seemed to do nothing.  Just on observation?  You like to rub salt in wounds don't you?

When it takes only a few seconds to kill many, then why are you worried about 400 policemen requiring precious minutes to arrive and assess the situation? (notwithstanding an incorrect assessment)

If an active shooter had been engaged by an armed responder immediately after beginning his rampage, his focus would surely have changed. He would not have had time to establish his barricaded posture… surrounding himself with certain victims.

However – Surely your facility’s correct measures would be preventive to a point:

1 – As he arrives, you should have created a target presentation that requires hesitation and uncertainty. Make your facility unattractive to him.

2 - Disrupt his progress by creating more uncertainty.

3 - Have someone call 911 and NOT HANG UP.

THE POINT

4 – Take any measure that would shift his focus from offensive to defensive.

5 – Make your response obvious and focused on HIM. Be deliberate.

6 - “No plan survives first contact with the enemy” (Helmuth von Moltke, 1871). Make yourself the enemy and the active shooter begins adjusting his plans to your actions.

7 – It is the number of lives you save AFTER you engage. It is NOT about the number of lives taken before you arrived.

8 – Your focus is to distract him and STOP him – not make a brilliant and impressive kill shot. If you deploy your firearm without benefit of training, and practice, no amount of bravado can take the place of muscle memory. (If this isn’t clear to you, YOU are the WRONG person to respond with a weapon.)  Every bullet that leaves your weapon belongs to you - no matter where it ends up.

9 – If you occupy enough of his attention, focused on you, perhaps the LEOs will arrive in time to take command of the situation. When the LEOs arrive place your weapon on the floor and step back. Keep your hands where they can clearly see them. YOUR PARTICIPATION IS FINISHED.

If he is on the floor with his weapon and accoutrements scattered about him, the situation has been controlled.  Whether he is dead, wounded, or soaked in his own urine, does not matter.  Your ONLY focus was to STOP HIM.

In spite of the chaos a good guy with a gun eventually took out the bad guy with a gun.  You should read page 10 of every month's American Rifleman.  It is titled I believe "The Armed Citizen". There you will find stark evidence where an armed (would be) victim ended up not being so because they were armed and used their arms to protect themselves. But I doubt you will because it refutes your narrative.  
Maybe I need to introduce you to a fence post at our country house.  There you could argue away and never be inconvenienced with facts, logic, and reason.

Ha! Your timing is impeccable. Today, we learned that one good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun at an Indiana mall. Bet that there's more than a few folks who were there that are thankful the good guy was.

More frequently just the presence of a firearm makes a criminal high tail it out of the country.  Once, this happened to me! Dr. John Lott has researched this and found out this happens over two million times per year.

Arch, we now learn that an armed citizen (good guy with a gun) took out a shooter (bad guy with a gun) in Indina within 15 seconds of the shooter starting his rampage.  In that 15 seconds the shooter killed three people.  The shooter was found to have two rifles, a hand gun, and 100 rounds of ammo.  How many lives do you think the armed citizen might have saved using a legally possessed and carried firearm?  Do you agree a good guy with a legal gun stopped a bad guy with a gun?

Based on Antifatechs origional post it seems to me that while the 400 carried guns and had training they may not have qualified as "good" in this instance vs the other where we can qualify the one good guy with the gun did indeed stop the bad guy ( and quickly if I may add )
