I don't know when it happened, but I went to Sigger's yesterday for fuel and the store was closed with a ribbon on the door and a sign that said Jan has returned to God. My blessings and condolances to the family. He was good man and will be missed by many.

I agree totally that we will miss him. The first time we went there after buying our lake house he asked us if we read our deed carefully but we had to spend a $100 per week at his place. It was all part of the deal. He was always friendly and kept prices for fuel and food reasonable.

Sorry to hear that, we saw him a couple of weeks ago at the store and he was kidding around with my youngest son. Great sense of humor and ran a nice business.

I'm really going to miss Jan. The wife and I started coming to Lake Martin about 15 years ago. After the second or third visit to his store, he knew our names and always greeted us by our names. I was impressed with the fact that out of all the people that came into his store, he could remember our names. He was a good businessman and I felt like he was a friend to us. Judy and Mark Waters will miss him. If there's a little store in heaven, Jan will be running it when we get there. Rest in peace Jan.

Talk about customer service, Jan forgot more about it than most ever know. The first time I met him he showed me his card file box. Through the years he had so many folks stop looking for directions that when he met new lake dwellers he put them in the file. It had your name, address, phone number and directions to your house from the store. There is no telling how many folks he helped find thier destination through the years. Amazingly it only took him a couple of weeks to get all the business back that Jay had managed to run off during his tenure, myself included.

It is at the intersection of Youngs Ferry Road, Gibson Road, and Mullican Loop just outside of Dadeville.

Jan is a really cool guy. I'll miss him. Best to Brenda too. I'll bet she has really been on a hayride the last couple of years.

Like others, he had our address in his card file the first time we introduced ourselves to him. There was always a kind word and a football game on the TV each fall. We shared some great fishing stories too. Wish is family well.
